Consumer Prices Jump Most in Single Month Since 2012

Washington, DC...The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.6 percent in March on a seasonally adjusted basis after rising 0.4 percent in February, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The March 1-month increase was the largest rise since a 0.6-percent increase in August 2012. Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased 2.6 percent before seasonal adjustment.

Santa Rosa, CA... April 6th, 2021. District Attorney Jill Ravitch has announced that after a thorough investigation, her office today initiated criminal proceedings against Pacific Gas and Electric Company ("PG&E") for its role in causing the 2019 Kincade Fire. The criminal complaint, filed with the Sonoma County Superior Court, alleges that PG&E recklessly caused the fire that started on the night of October 23, 2019 at the Geysers Geothermal Field northeast of Geyserville. Specifically, the complaint charges PG&E with 5 felonies and 28 misdemeanors, including unlawfully causing a fire that resulted in great bodily injury, unlawfully causing a fire that resulted in the burning of inhabited structures, and unlawfully causing a fire that resulted in the burning of forest land, as well as various air pollution crimes.

Washington, DC...The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice will not pursue criminal charges against the U.S. Capitol Police officer involved in the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Ashli Babbitt, the Office announced today.

Pioneer, CA...Calaveras Healthy Impact Product Solutions (CHIPS), working together with the Eldorado National Forest, is starting work on the View 88 Fuels Reduction and Prescribed Fire Readiness Project to protect communities, forests, critical habitat, and water resources from wildfire. The work is funded by a $999,196 Sierra Nevada Watershed Improvement Program (WIP) from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC) that was awarded in June 2020.

Suspect Arrested for La Grange Man's April 3rd Murder

Sonora, CA...39-year-old Luis Cifuentes was arrested on Monday in Madera by Tuolumne County Detectives for the earlier reported murder of 29-year-old Cayetano Duarte-Perez in La Grange on April 3. After only one week of investigation, Detectives quickly identified Cifuentes as the suspect in the case. Detectives were able to obtain a warrant for Cifuentes’s arrest, and search warrant for both his home and vehicle.

Auburn, CA...The Sierra Nevada Conservancy (SNC), a California state agency, announced the availability of $20 million dollars for the implementation of shovel-ready forest health projects in the region. The Immediate Action Wildfire and Forest Resilience directed grant program was made possible by an early action wildfire and forest resilience budget approved by the legislature and the Governor earlier today. The early action budget includes $20 million for the SNC and is part of a $1-billion forest and wildfire resilience funding proposal under consideration by state leaders.
