Calaveras County, CA...Dr. Dean Kelaita, Health Officer, is urging Calaveras County Residents to get vaccinated against influenza (the flu) as soon as possible. Localized flu activity has already been reported in 1 California County, where an elderly person has died due to flu-related complications.

Angels Camp, CA...Jeff Johnson has been part of Friends of the Calaveras County Fair since its inception in 2009. He served both as the board's president, vice president and Junior Livestock Committee representative. He was instrumental in bringing back the historic Whiskerino Dinner Dance, construction of the Ranch house, water line projects and much more. Jeff has a deep love for the Fair. His passion has been evident in his accomplishments on behalf of the Fairgrounds.

Angels Camp, CA...Rita was born in 1919 to Irish Catholic farmers in Centralia, Kansas where she lived with her ten siblings. She also met her future husband Ray, in the same small community. In 1941 they moved to Northern California where they were married. In 1951 they moved their family to San Jose where they raised four children. Rita was very involved with church and school activities. After Ray retired in 1978 they moved to Angels Camp with their son Brian. Again Rita was involved with church and community activities. Her hands were always busy, either holding a book, knitting needles or a crochet hook. Many babies were kept warm with her blankets.

Angels Camp, CA...On October 19, 2016 at approximately 11:08 AM, officers from the Angels Camp Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a silver Dodge Durango on Gun Club Road near Hwy 49 in Angels Camp for expired registration and displaying false registration tabs. The two occupants of the vehicle were identified as 27 year old Angels Camp resident, Ryan Ashlock, and 43 year old Angels Camp resident, Sarah Tate.
