Danville, CA...The Sierra Foothills Wine Alliance (comprised of Calaveras, Amador and El Dorado County wineries) would like to invite you to attend "Moving Mountains" The Sierra Foothills Wine Experience. The Alliance's first event will take place Sunday, September 19 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Blackhawk Country Club in Danville (eastern Contra Costa County) and will double as a benefit for the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, which will collect 100% of the proceeds from an on-site silent auction. Over 30 wineries will be pouring their finest wines, accompanied by delicious, Mediterranean-style finger foods and live flamenco music...

Murphys, CA...In the winter of 1999 Frog’s Tooth Vineyards began its life as a tadpole when Gary Grant purchased 67 acres of land on Hunt Road in the Salt Springs Valley of Calaveras County. Ten acres of Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Petite Sirah and Grenache were planted in 2003, and in 2005 Frog’s Tooth entered young froghood when they crushed their first fruit. “I initially wanted to just be a farmer, but the grapes were producing award-winning wines by other wineries, so we decided to make our own label,” said Gary...

Quickie Chicken Paella
Paired with our 2008 Big John Zinfandel

* 1/2 cup dry white wine
* 1/2 teaspoon saffron threads
* 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
* 1 1/4 teaspoons smoked paprika*
* 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
* 6 large chicken thighs with skin and bones, excess skin and fat trimmed (about 2 1/2 pounds)
* 4 ounces 1/4-inch-thick slices fully cooked smoked Spanish chorizo**
* 1 tablespoon olive oil
* 1 1/2 cups chopped onion (about 1 large)
* 4 garlic cloves, minced
* 2 toasted fennel seeds
* 1 1/2 cups long-grain rice
* 2 cups low-salt chicken broth
* 1 14.5-ounce can diced tomatoes in juice
* 1/4 cup chopped roasted red peppers from jar
* 2 1/2 cups sugar snap peas, trimmed (about 8 ounces
* ¼ cup of fresh parsley chopped....
