Call for Candidates for the 2014 Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant |

Angels Camp, CA ...The Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant and Junior Frog Jump will be held concurrently on Saturday, May 10 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Altaville Melones Fire Department in Angels Camp.The Junior Miss Calaveras competition is open to 8th grade girls in Calaveras County. The contestants are judged on a written test on general local knowledge, a topical speech, an interview by a panel of experienced judges and by raffle ticket sales.

Angels Camp, CA....Having served the Highway 4 Corridor since 1994, I am pleased to announce the new location of H&H Automotive, now open for business as usual in the Mark Twain Shopping Center, a setting much more convenient for all. Calaveras Uncorked: Frogtown Hosts Annual Wine Competition |

Frogtown, CA ... April 12 is the deadline for entries in the Professional Wine Show held each year in conjunction with the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee. The Fair and the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance team up each year to present this competition. Wine must be produced from grapes grown in Calaveras or eight surrounding counties – or the winery must be in those locations...

Brenda Lee Ziehlke 1958 - 2014 |

Angels Camp, CA...Brenda Lee (Shelton) Ziehlke died March 8, 2014. She was 55. She was born Sept. 23, 1958, in Pineville, Ky., to Charlie and Anna Shelton. At age 8, she moved from Kentucky to the Fresno area with her mother and siblings Jack and Linda. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1976. She moved to Murphys in 1985 with her oldest son Keith. Four years later, she moved to Angels Camp. She married Mike Ziehlke of Angels Camp Sept. 7, 1996. Mr. and Mrs. Ziehlke have two children, Breanna, 17, and Michael Jr., 15, both of whom are students at Bret Harte High School. Mrs. Ziehlke worked for many years as a bank teller, first for Central Sierra Bank and most recently Rabobank. She was involved in various community activities, such as a partnership with the Calaveras Cancer Support Group wherein she and her husband organized an annual softball game fundraiser. The event has resulted in thousands of dollars supporting families of cancer patients who deal with mounting financial needs. Mrs. Ziehlke was also an avid supporter of her children’s sports activities and was a constant presence at their games... |

Columbia College Foundation presents “Focus on Foothill Water: Beyond the Drought” A free community event featuring the region’s leading water experts from the Tuolumne-Stanislaus Integrated Regional Watershed Management Group. The presentation will be at Sonora High School Auditorium on Thursday evening March 13. Doors open at 6 pm, The program begins at 6:30 and is expected to last two hours. |
