Korean War Veteran William Miladinovich, 87 Passed Away On December 13

Angels Camp, CA...William “Bud” Miladinovich passed away on December 13, 2015 at Doctors Hospital in Modesto California at the age of 87. Bud was a lifelong resident of Angels Camp, and resided in the home his father purchased in 1925 until his death. He was a 1945 graduate of Bret Harte High School where he was the editor of the school newspaper known as “The Bullfrog Gazette.” Bud was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and trained as a Diesel mechanic at Fort Eustis Virginia. Bud was shipped to active duty during the Korean War where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, 2 Bronze Stars, and the United Nations Medal.

Angels Camp, CA...For those who weren’t able to join us at the standing-room-only 2015 CVB Annual Dinner & 9th annual Innovations in Tourism Awards last month, here’s a recap on the events of the evening, with links to resources that were presented or handed out on the night.  Laurie Giannini, CVB board member, began by welcoming dignitaries and guests and thanking Eric and Christine Taylor for hosting us so graciously at Outer Aisle Foods. She introduced our board members for the 2015/16 fiscal year. Then, Larry Cornish, the CVB Vice President, led a moment of silence in memory of Sheriff Gary Kuntz.

Bear Valley, CA...It looks to be perfect weather for the holiday vacation week for many. Today: Mostly cloudy. Numerous snow showers in the morning... Then scattered snow showers in the afternoon. Highs 21 to 36 higher elevations...33 to 39 lower elevations. Little or no snow accumulation lower elevations...up to 1 inch higher elevations. Light winds. Tonight: Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of snow showers in the evening...then mostly clear after midnight. Colder. Lows 9 to 24 higher elevations...21 to 31 lower elevations. Prevailing northeast winds up to 10 mph.

Probable Suicide & Assisted Suicide In Murphys

Murphys, CA...On 12-22-15 at about 1720 hours, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call from a male subject reporting that he had just shot his wife. Both the Sheriff’s Department and Angels Camp Police Department responded to an address near Murphys. Two subjects were found deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The case remains under investigation. No other subjects are believed to be involved in the incident and no suspects are outstanding. The identities of the two subjects will remain confidential pending the notification of next of kin. (Updated...The Names have now been released as Carl & Dot Rasmussen. Details may change but some details indicate that there may have been some medical conditions contributing to the sad endings of these lives.)

Angels Camp, CA...The Angels Camp Business Association awarded first place to Blooms and Things Florist for exterior décor during its annual ACBA Holiday Decoration Contest. Bank of Stockton garnered second place for its interior decor, and Firefall Jewelers won third place for their window display. “We want to thank everyone that participated this year to make our town so festive for the holiday season,” said Kerry Keeney, ACBA Administrative Assistant.

Bear Valley, CA...Mother Nature continues making amends for avoiding us for the last few years. Rain and snow showers in the morning...then rain and snow in the afternoon. Highs 26 to 41. Snow accumulation up to 2 inches lower elevations...4 to 7 inches higher elevations. Snow level 4500 feet. Prevailing southwest winds up to 15 mph with gusts to around 30 mph. Over ridges...prevailing south winds 15 to 30 mph shifting to the southwest 10 to 20 mph in the afternoon.
