Angels Camp, Ca... Vera Louise Swanson of Angels Camp passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 3, 2014. Vera was born in San Andreas Sept. 2, 1930. She moved with her family during the war to Berkeley, CA where she attended Berkeley High, met and married the love of her life Art Swanson in 1947. She raised her family in the Bay Area. Upon retirement they moved to Arnold and later Angels Camp....

Angels Camp, CA...It was the summer of 1865 and Calaveras County was a booming, roaring, mining frontier camp. The roads were bad and travel was slow, and so the miners did not go far for amusement. This was the setting for Mark Twain's first published work, "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" - the story of a gambler named Jim Smiley. ...

Angels Camp Gold Run Raises Thousands For Mark Twain Elementary Programs |

Angels Camp, CA....Bright & Early last Sunday morning downtown Angels Camp was filled with over 400 runners for the inaugural Angels Camp Gold Run. With first year results like this the event will no doubt be back next year and settle into a permanent spot on Calaveras County's activity calendar. The thousands in proceeds will benefit Mark Twain Elementary School's programs and activities for the students not funded by the normal budget. The organizing group also wanted to highlight and promote healthy dietary choices and activities.

San Andreas, CA...The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit, is reminding all residents the burn suspension is still in effect, until further notice. Fire danger remains above average across the Central Sierras and, even though we have recently experienced some moisture and cooler temperatures, the chance of large and damaging fires still exists....
