Sonora, CA... The Sonora Police Department would like to introduce you to our new Community Service Officer Joelyne Lemas. CSO Lemas was born in Fremont, California, and was raised in Modesto. She moved to Tuolumne County with her Fiance in 2013 and married him in 2014. The couple welcomed their son in 2017, who is a 6th generation Tuolumne County Resident. She has visited the motherlode throughout her life and has many fond memories of the area, including summer camping with her father around Pinecrest Lake.
Combining Departments May Double or Triple Costs & Increase Liability Says Coroner Raggio

Angels Camp, CA...We sat down for a few minutes Monday morning with Calaveras County Coroner Kevin Raggio. The county is discussing combining the Sheriff and Coroner Departments. Roughly half of California counties have done so. Conventional wisdom dictates that combining departments may drive cost savings. In Calaveras County however the Coroner says it may double or triple yearly costs and necessitate significant capital improvement costs if the county has to construct facilities to house the department.

Washington, DC...Racism is the practice of according rights and privileges to an individual not based on equality under the law, but rather according to what race that person was born. It is antithetical to every principle our country was founded on, from the promise of our Declaration of Independence that “all men are created equal” to the equal protection clause of our Constitution. It was a malignancy we fought a Civil War to remove. For generations, it has been denounced by every American of good will for the evil that it is.
Bureau of Land Management Announces Seasonal Fire Restrictions

Eldorado Hill, CA...The Bureau of Land Management announces seasonal fire restrictions, including temporary limitations on target shooting, effective May 21. The restrictions are for public lands managed by the Central Coast, Mother Lode and Ukiah field offices due to dry conditions and wildland fire danger. These seasonal restrictions are in addition to the year-round statewide fire prevention order, issued on April 28, 2020, and will remain in effect until further notice.

Governor Newsom’s Plan expands the state’s COVID-19 Small Business Relief Grant program to a total of $4 billion, representing the largest such program in the entire country. Angels Camp, CA...The City of Angels announces the resignation of Councilman Jeremy Leonard from the Angels Camp City Council effective May 13, 2021. Councilman Leonard was elected on November 3, 2020. He has been a lifetime City resident and in his short tenure as Councilman proudly facilitated a community clean-up day and lead several construction projects at the Angels Camp Museum. His hard work and grit were welcomed additions and appreciated by Staff.
