Richmond, CA....$1.1 billion program will dramatically expand trash removal from state highways and fund local beautification and liter abatement projects.  Creates up to 11,000 jobs, including for people exiting homelessness, formerly incarcerated individuals, veterans, students and local artists.  Project opportunities in all 58 counties, nearly a third of program funding to be invested in cities, counties, tribes and transit agencies

As Drought Conditions Intensify, Governor Newsom Calls on Californians to Take Simple Actions to Conserve Water

San Luis Obispo County, CA...Voluntary 15 percent reduction in water use urged to preserve available supplies, protect water reserves.  Emergency declaration expanded to nine additional counties, bringing total to 50 counties across the state now under a drought state of emergency.  Amid intensifying drought and record-breaking temperatures across the Western United States, Governor Gavin Newsom today added nine counties to the regional drought state of emergency and called on Californians to voluntarily reduce their water use by 15 percent with simple measures to protect water reserves if drought conditions continue and to help maintain critical flows for fish and wildlife wherever possible.

Governor Newsom Announces Appointments 7.8.21

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the following appointments: Kelly Huston, 50, of West Sacramento, has been appointed Senior Policy Advisor at the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency. Huston has been Deputy Executive Director at the California Public Utilities Commission since 2019. He was Deputy Director of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services from 2012 to 2019 and 2008 to 2009, Assistant Secretary for the California Emergency Management Agency from 2009 to 2012 and Vice President of Corporate Communications and Marketing for PMZ Inc. from 2005 to 2007. Huston was Assistant Deputy Director of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security in 2005, Commander of Public Affairs for the California Highway Patrol from 2004 to 2005 and Legislative Affairs and Media Relations Manager for the Stanislaus County Sherriff’s Department from 2000 to 2004. Huston earned a Master of Arts degree in homeland security and defense from the Naval Post Graduate School. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $170,004. Huston is a Democrat.

Oakland, CA... Highlights 10 new dashboards to help increase the accessibility of state criminal justice data. California Attorney General Rob Bonta on July 1st, 2021 released four annual reports — as well as 10 new data dashboards — that provide the public with statewide data on criminal justice statistics in California. The reports, as well as the data behind each report, are available on OpenJustice, a data-driven initiative that works to increase access to criminal justice data and support the development of public policy. The information contained in the reports reflects statistics for 2020 as submitted by California law enforcement agencies and other criminal justice entities. In reviewing the reports, readers should be mindful of the potential effects of the pandemic on the data, which significantly impacted daily life in California and across the world.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) announced today that it will extend the moratorium on utility service disconnections through September 30, 2021.
