Frogtown, CA....The Calaveras beauties were out in full force on Friday eve at the lovely Coronation Ball 2010. The young ladies who are running for Miss Calaveras or Saddle Queen joined Miss Calaveras 2009, Kayla Smith and, Saddle Queen 2009, Catheryn Gulizia, and their respective courts as the featured guests at this years Coronation Ball. Those ladies who once held the title of Miss Calaveras, Belle of the Camp or Saddle Queen have again been invited. Hosted by the Friends of the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee, the Coronation Ball is an annual fundraiser for scholarship programs .....
Frogtown, CA....WINE COMPETITION RESULTS ARE IN!! "The scene could have been serious, but relaxed at today's (April 29) professional wine judging, taking place at Frogeteria in Frogtown. Where else but Calaveras for frogs? Judges came from as far away as Laramie, Wyoming (Bob Adams) and as close to home as Avery (Doug Brown). Peter Murphy from Napa said, "I like coming to Calaveras County. It's a unique area. The Cabernets were incredible this year There were some great Pinot Noirs, too." More than 45 wineries entered."
Student Constructed Storage Buildings to Be Auctioned at Calaveras County Fair!

Frogtown, CA....This year, students enrolled in the Bret Harte woodshop program had the opportunity to learn basic construction skills by building three 8’X8’ storage buildings that are now available to the general public through auction at the fair. Working in teams under the direction of District Superintendent Mike Chimente and Division of the State Architect Inspector Mike Martin, students constructed the buildings while learning basic framing and building standards....

Frogtown, CA.....With the fairgrounds preparing for the onslaught of people and animals next week the tractors were rolling, the construction crews were banging, and the sawdust was flying, all adding to the anticipation and the stress of showing an animal. But I tell you, these kids were up to the challenge. The first entrant was Lindsey Michaels of Copper Hills 4-H showing Chico, a five year old male alpaca. This was Lindsay’s 3rd year showing, which put her in the advanced category. Linsdey placed first in showmanship. Next up was Levi Rollings, also of Copper Hills 4-H, showing Dufus, a five year old male. This was Levi’s first year in 4-H. He placed first in showmanship for novice.....

Frogtown, CA...."While out at Frogtown today covering the Alpaca Competition, I didn't realize that the dog and pygmy goat judging was also going on. I of course had to get photos, so I ran back and forth to get them. Here are photos of the beginning of the dog judging and the beginning of the pygmy judging. At least I ran off that cookie I ate!"

Frogtown, CA....Fairgoers will have a chance to see one of their own compete in the WRBRA bullriding event at the 2010 Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee. Scheduled for Friday May 14 as part of the Arena events, riders will range from age 3 on sheep to Pro Am competitors on bulls. One of the riders will be 4th grader Tristan Barr of Mountain Ranch California. Tristan rode his first mutton at the Reno Rodeo in 2005. As soon as he was done he asked his dad if he could do it again. He has worked his way through the ranks and rides junior steers. He has qualified again this year and will be traveling to Fort Worth in August to compete in the junior steer division.
