It’s no secret that Mike Ziehlke has been a big part of Pop Warner football in our area for a long time. He was a player on the first Pop Warner team in Angels Camp then named the Sierra Packers. Mr. Ziehlke took a 10 year break in coaching but like most people that get involved with coaching at any level he felt the need to come back and so he did 2 years ago.....

Angels Camp, CA..We had the pleasure to spend a few minutes with Bret Harte Senior Carson Ellington and his push to see his friend and fallen local hero Lcpl. Gavin Brummund honored by his former team this year. Not only will the team be honoring him with a special halftime program they will also be wearing special an American flag with Gavin's number honoring him on their helmets this year. During his playing days at Bret Harte Lcpl. Brummund was an integral member of the Bret Harte Football and wrestling teams as well...

The PWGA, Pacific Women’s Golf Association, competed today for their Nine Hole Club 2010 Tournament of Champions at La Contenta Golf Club in Valley Springs. 37 players representing 10 Northern California Golf Clubs participated in the 1-day event. Teams traveled from as far away as Oakmont Country Club in Santa Rosa, Trilogy Golf Club in Rio Vista, and River Oaks Golf Club in Ceres. Low Gross Champion was Linda Frediani from Oakmont Golf Club in Santa Rosa, Low Net winner was Tina Campan from Forest Meadows....

Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Mountain launched a pilot program for mountain biking at the ski resort and village. Kuma chair has been modified to carry bikes and people in a very efficient way. They have put pull down safety bars and bike carriers on the chairs. It's slicker than valet parking. At the bottom you hand them your bike and load the chair. Your bikes are loaded on the chairs behind you. At Bear Top you step off on a newly built landing platform and a few seconds later you are handed your bike so you can take another lap....

Angels Camp, CA...At 6" & 265lbs of adipose tissue I don't normally feel like a midget but I did on Friday morning at Bret Harte's Dorroh Field. We had the pleasure to chat with UCLA's Offensive Tackle Brett Downey. At 6'7" and 310lbs Brett hopes to become an integral part of the UCLA offensive line this year. Bret is up 60lbs from his playing weight at Bret Harte with earning a starting spot at UCLA and then the Pros as a goal he hopes to build up to 325-330lbs. If you have seen the move "The Blind Side" then you know what position he plays...

We have some very exciting things planned for the upcoming sports season, so stay tuned and thanks so much for your visits!.....The evening of Thursday August 5 the Gold Country All Comers Meet showed off the new track at Bret Harte. Seven races made it a busy night for all ages as tonight it didn’t matter if you were 8 or 60 years old if you wanted to run then you did. The 5K was the pinnacle race of the evening where Tyco Sedler took the 1st place honors with a time of 18:19.70. Tyco was followed closely by Brandon Jacobs who nearly shadowed Tyco for the whole race, Jacobs ......
