Keep the Mokelumne River from State Control ~ Letter To The Editor From Vicky Reinke

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/15/2014 12:13 PM
Angels Camp, CA....The Democrats and environmental groups are on their way to designating 37 miles of the Mokelumne River as “Wild and Scenic” What does it mean to be designated “Wild and Scenic”? It means that the river must remain free-flowing without artificial impoundment, diversion, or other modification of the river. In other words, the water in that portion of the river cannot be diverted for the use of the people and farmers, now and in the future. Any future water use will be controlled by the State....

Public Input Needed for Pine Grove Dollar General Project

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 07/14/2014 11:46 PM
Pine Grove, Ca...I am writing to express my disappointment with the scheduled Pine Grove Dollar General store project. For many reasons, I feel there needs to be public input on this project. I have strong concerns over the "Negative Declarations" status regarding the approval of the Environmental Impact Report and the ommission of public review originally. The zoning and EIR were granted over 20 years ago and they need to be revisited. While concerned community residents and business people seek legal counsel and a Injunction to delay the project, I am hoping county officials will see fit to grant this themselves.. There is no reason to bring a box store such as Dollar General to our community, which holds "community concepts" dearly. We don't want our local retailers to suffer, not do we look forward to employment lay offs and hours cut when those stores begin to feel the presence of Dollar General. Those employees will not be hired by Dollar General, as they historically only hire 4-6 part time employees and a manager. We don't need more unemployment in Amador!...

Letter To The Editor On Grant Barrett ~ By Gary Stevens

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/03/2014 08:36 AM
San Andreaa, CA...I would like to take this opportunity to encourage voters in Calaveras County to vote for Grant Barrett for Judge of the Superior Court, Dept 1. on June 3rd. Grant Barrett has been presiding over cases for more than ten years; divorce cases, settlement conferences, child custody and support, traffic, criminal and civil lawsuit as the judge. Grant was hired by Judge Mewhinney and Judge Martin as the research attorney for the courts. Not long after, Grant was hired as the judge pro-tem, and then as the court commissioner where he currently hears and decides cases. Additionally, Grant remains the court research attorney, which means he provides legal assistance and case law research to the judges in all complicated cases.

Local Couple Hosts Fundraiser for Friends of Calaveras Animal Services in Honor of Beloved Roscoe

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 05/29/2014 12:52 PM
Big Trees, Ca...Local couple host 1st fundraiser for FOCAS (Friends of Calaveras Animal Services) in honor of their beloved, Roscoe an 8-1/5 year old 16 lbs. Yorkie that was taken by a coyote just a year ago in his front yard. You may ask, as we did, What can a person's love for their pet create? How can the love we have for our little Rosoce Man have an impact for shelter animals in our county right now? Lots we'll tell you! Don't ever think that your love for your pet is silly or insignificant. Through their existence our hearts open on levels we may not have otherwise experienced in our lifetime without them. That opening can have a profound effect on our future and benefit the future of our shelter animals. Here is a brief story that we hope will touch and inspire you...

Brown Act Violations & Williamson Act Handling Hurt County Budget ~ Letter To The Editor By Joseph C. Kelly

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/08/2014 04:02 PM
San Andreas, CA...District 5 and District 3 citizens, taxpayers and voters, another Government Code Section 54950, Brown Act Violation and 3.95 million
reasons not to re-elect Darren Spellman (D-5) and Merita Callaway (D-3). April 29, 2014 during the quarterly evening meeting, the proverbial rug was lifted and the dirt swept under by the Board of Supervisors. The California Land Conservation Act (Williamson Act) was on the agenda. An issue that was not properly dealt with in 2009 was part of the presentation....

Thank You To PG&E, CalTrans & Municipal Workers ~ By Molly Day

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/08/2013 10:04 AM
THANK YOU PG&E, CalTrans, all City & County workers for always getting out in the most miserable of conditions to keep my convenient life chugging along. Long hours, crap conditions, not to mention an absolute risk to yourselves while your loved ones wait at home worried. It's not much different than what we do except I have never seen signs all over town telling you THANK YOU!! Sorry I didn't make you a sign today, but please know you were on my mind & we appreciate what you do for us! MD - USFS Firefighter

Calaveras Community Band votes to donate Fall Concert proceeds to Rosendo Rojas' medical expenses! ~A Mother's Letter By Karen Rojas

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/02/2013 10:43 AM
Angels Camp, CA...Dear Friends, As many of you may know, Mic Harper, band director, was instrumental (no pun intended!) in starting Rosendo's musical "career" way back in the 4th grade - little "recorders", flutes - at Michelson Elementary School. She then invited him to play on some drums at a small school performance, and that was the real beginning. Rosendo had a natural musical talent - the Rojas bloodline, not mine! - and Mic helped to nurture and encourage that. When he was in sixth grade up at Avery Middle School, she asked him to start participating in what was then the Calaveras County Community Band, and he attended Monday evening rehearsals and performances as often as he could. He joined the Avery Band, which was a class taught by Mic, and went on to attend music and band classes at Bret Harte High School under the direction of Dave Allured for four years...
