Letter to the Editor on County Schools ~By Sharon Scotto |
Posted by: thepinetree on 08/20/2012 06:49 PM
Valley Springs, CA...Dear Editor, Kevin Wychopen’s August 17th article in The Enterprise titled “Romney would dismantle schools” is a complete lie. The Enterprise should be ashamed to even print such a thing. Your assertion that the evil Republicans are picking on the “poor” schools is just wrong. Whatever happened to fair and balanced news? Have you noticed that all the agencies are cutting back? Have you noticed that Jerry Brown, a staunch Democrat is the governor? Do you realize that our country is 16 trillion in debt to the Chinese? Why don’t you pull your head out of the sand and look around. The fire and sheriff’s departments have been cut way back. The libraries are running on bare bones and volunteers....

California State Parks: Our Past, Our Present, and Our Future ~By David Vassar |
Posted by: John_Hamilton on 07/17/2012 01:58 PM
| Arnold, CA...“You can’t have a developed society and culture without memory and our state parks preserve the memory: the memory of who we were naturally before we even arrived; the memory of nature; and the memory of our social and cultural experience. We define ourselves as a people, an American people, now a global people, in part, in significant measure through our state parks.” -- Kevin Starr, Professor of History & Author - University of Southern California and Librarian of California (emeritus)... |

As We Celebrate our Nation's Independence, Help The Web Stay Free As Well ~By John Hamilton |
Posted by: John_Hamilton on 07/05/2012 07:28 AM

Silicone Valley, USA...Many of the tech giants like Google and organizations like the Free Software Federation are becoming increasingly concerned over the future of the web. The web has been the driving innovator in the worlds economies and expanded freedoms as well. Since it's early days the web was designed to be standards based, fault tolerant and open. The free nature of it is coming under attack from many angles and it will take an awareness and concerted efforts for it to remain free from restrictions in the future. Many governments don't want their citizen truly free including ours. Google is one of the best on web freedoms their early China stance notwithstanding. In a standards based web it treats all content and the people who create that content as equals. Sites like ThePineTree.net which had over 4.7 million page views in June,...

Letter to The Editor on Law Enforcement Funding~by Al Segalla |
Posted by: John_Hamilton on 06/14/2012 08:22 AM
| Copperopolis, CA..."It seems funding for our sheriff department is way below the per population amount of neighboring counties. This apparently has resulted in increased crime with the losses of victims paying the price for the delayed response time caused by the underfunding. At what point does lack of wisdom on the part of our elected leaders morph into being accessories after the fact?.... |

Dear Editor, The Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) proposal has serious flaws which would be harmful to our local economy.
While the leadership and staff of Central Sierra Economic Development District (CSCEDD) are fine people and have done good work, the problems with the CEDS are systemic and are imposed by the federal government. Some of the issues are....

Letter To The Editor on District Attorney By David Wagner |
Posted by: John_Hamilton on 05/25/2012 07:50 AM
| Arnold, CA...As campaign season is among us, there will be competition galore for the seat of district attorney. New candidates will face off against incumbent Barbara Yook; but tell me something I don’t know. I am not here to endorse or deface a candidate; I am just here to share a story about my experience with our current reigning prosecutor.... |

Letter to the Editor on Speeds on Arnold Roads |
Posted by: John_Hamilton on 04/16/2012 12:59 AM
| Arnold, Ca...At our last Supervisor's meeting on April 10th, and after literally months of efforts by the County Public Works Department after citizen complaints, the Board Approved a resolution to place speed limit signs on Camanche Drive in Meadowmont. The legal speed limit by vehicle code is 25 mph, but other than a sign placed on Country Club just off of Hwy 4, there were no speed signs through the balance of Country CLub, El Dorado through to Rawhide, Rawhide at all, Camanche at all and none on Mustang.... |

Sharon Romano Responds to Spellman |

San Andreas, CA...Thank you for your concern over my understanding of the Constitution; however you still haven’t posted by response. Do you not want your followers to hear any other points of view nor allow anyone to respond to your comments? It seems one sided to me if you don’t let me respond after calling me a “lackey.” Maybe in the interest of being fair to those you have accused of being a “lackey,” or in your most recent post on thepinetree.net, suggesting someone give us sugar for our sour grapes, you will consider posting my response on your Calaveras West Blog...

Thank You for Another Record Setting Month!! ~By John Hamilton |
Posted by: John_Hamilton on 03/01/2012 12:17 PM
Avery, CA...We would like to thank the average of 18,126 of you who visited our humble site each and everyday last month. This is the highest daily viewer average in our 7 year history. We know you have many options for your information and it is truly an honor to be part of your information gathering habits. In the passing early this morning of Andrew Breitbart it reminded me of the incredible changes the web has brought to our society. Breitbart was one of the driving forces of not only the Drudge Report but also The Huffington Post....
