Arnold, CA...The Friends of Sierra Nevada Logging Museum's Annual Logging Jamboree is held Saturday of Labor Day weekend on the grounds of the Sierra Nevada Logging Museum. Even with the cool damp weather this year's event was an axe throwing, crosscut sawing, chain sawing success. In the Logging Competition there was, Axe Throwing, Jack and Jill Bucking, Choker Setting, Hot Saw, and more! We tried to take enough photos and video to have this as a rolling archive of the event. There are over 150 photos in the photo album at the bottom of this post & over 2 hours of video of almost all the events.

California Leads the Way Again with Nation's Highest Poverty Rate

Washington, DC...The U.S. Census Bureau announced yesterday that real median household income in 2022 fell in comparison to 2021. The official poverty rate of 11.5% was not statistically different between 2021 and 2022. The Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM) rate in 2022 was 12.4%, an increase of 4.6 percentage points from 2021. This is the first increase in the overall SPM poverty rate since 2010. Meanwhile, 92.1% of the U.S. population had health insurance coverage for all or part of 2022 (compared to 91.7% in 2021). An estimated 25.9 million or 7.9% of people did not have health insurance at any point during 2022, according to the 2023 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC). That compares to 27.2 million or 8.3% of people who did not have health insurance at any point during 2021.

Extreme Lightning Event Leaves More than 38 Fire Burning Across the Forest

Sonora, CA...Since an unexpectedly stormy Saturday night, firefighters with the Stanislaus National Forest have responded to more than 38 lightning-caused wildfires. Of those fires, only one - the Claim fire, is currently more than an acre. All fires are currently being patrolled and staffed with adequate resources with no threats to structures or people at this time.
