Sonora, CA....Local Law Enforcement officers were recognized for their diligent efforts within Tuolumne County of Keeping the motoring public safe from impaired drivers. The following officers assigned to the California Highway Patrol, Sonora Area were recognized: Officer Josh Mahaney, Officer Steve Warzee, Officer Steve Machado and Officer Michael Huddleston. Columbia, CA...On 4/20/14 about 5:00 P.M. Deputies were called to a dispute occurring at a residence in the 12000 block of Yankee Hill Rd in Columbia. Upon arrival the Deputies met with several individuals whom all had been consuming alcohol and appeared under the influence of alcohol. Deputies determined that four of the individuals whom had been staying together at the residence had been drinking throughout the day. An argument turned into a physical fight between the four individuals...

Sixteen Fellow Judges Endorse Hugh K. Swift's Election

San Andreas, CA...Sixteen superior court judges from throughout California have endorsed Judge Hugh K. Swift in his June 3 election campaign to retain his position in the Calaveras County Superior Court. Following an extensive evaluation by the State Bar Association’s Judicial Nominees Evaluation Commission, Swift was appointed last December to succeed the Hon. Douglas V. Mewhinney who was retiring. He now faces two challengers in the primary election....

Two Inmates Who Walked Away From Mule Creek State Prison Minimum Support Facility Apprehended.

Ione, CA...Minimum-security inmates Patrick Raines and Johnny Maciel walked away from Mule Creek State Prison’s Minimum Support Facility in Amador County on April 16. Both Inmates were apprehended at about 8:20 a.m. Saturday, April 19. They were apprehended near the intersection of Willow Creek Road and Highway 16 in Plymouth, Calif,. in the area where authorities believed the two had been hiding. A local rancher saw them sitting near the roadway and notified CDCR staff patrolling in the area...

Law & Justice Candidates Night April 29

San Andreas, CA...With a focus on law and justice, candidates for sheriff and the two superior court benches will gather for a questions and answer session at the San Andreas Town Hall on April 29. Two half-hour sessions for the judicial candidates will be followed by a one-hour Q&A session for the sheriff contenders. This event will begin at 6:00 PM with meet and greet hour. Candidates for other county offices will also participate in this segment which includes no-host wine, beer and sodas. The Q&A sessions begin at 7:00 PM....


This event is being sponsored by the Calaveras Economic Development Company and the County Chamber of Commerce. Voters may submit questions for the candidates in advance to Contact@CalaverasLife.com.

San Andreas, CA...On April 26, 2014 the Calaveas County Sheriff's Department will be sponsoring the spring "Drop The Drugs" Day. Every spring and fall the "Drop The Drugs" day allows people to get rid of unused, expired, or illegal drugs with no questions asked. From 10am to 2pm on April 26 the drugs can be dropped off at the following locations: Feeney Park Parking Lot in Murphys, Calaveras County Office of Education in Angels Camp, Mark Twain Medical Center in San Andreas and Toyon Middle School in Valley Springs....

Salinas Man Arrested for DUI After Head On Hwy 108 Collision

Jamestown, CA...On April 14, 2014 an approximately 1:15pm, A Salinas man was driving a 2003 Honda Civic Northbound on Hwy 49/108 north of Montezuma Junction, at approximately 55mph. He allowed his vehicle to cross into the southbound lane. In order to avoid a collision with oncoming traffic he attempted to take evasive action and steered back to the right but overcorrected. The vehicle returned to the northbound lane were he lost control of his vehicle...
