Murphys, CA...Black Sheep Winery arrived in Murphys with the 1984 harvest. From that first harvest we produced our 1984 Amador Zinfandel. The wine was styled in a big, bold way like nobody else could do. That's what makes us Black Sheep; we're different from the rest of the flock. We feature small batches of limited release wines handcrafted from high quality grapes grown in Calaveras and Amador Counties. We produce about 2,500 cases of wine per year, specializing in Zinfandels and Rhone varietals.

Angels Camp, CA...The Mark Twain Wildwest Fest will close Hwy 49 through Historic Downtown Angels Camp on Saturday, October 19th, 2019. Hwy 49 will be closed from 8am to 6pm for all the fun in Historic Downtown Angels Camp. The Closure will be Hwy 49 at Sam’s Way (Utica Park) to Vallecito Road. Main Street OPEN to local traffic to Utica Park. Southbound detour will be Eastbound Highway 4 Bypass to Vallecito Road exit. Then Travel west on Vallecito Road to Highway 49/Main Street and vice versa.

Murphys, CA...On Sunday October 13th the Bret Harte FFA hosted its’ 30th Annual Cow Pie Social event at Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys. It was a fun-filled family day with bounce houses, volleyball, balloons for the kids, and the game of cornhole! The Bret Harte FFA Boosters cooked a fabulous meal of BBQ Tri-Tip, famous Beck’s beans, salad & french bread. For the adults, there was a horseshoe tournament and Chicken Chip Bingo game. Cattle were brought to the corral by our very own Ref-Turd-Rees, Dominic Santella and Rowan Perry who were the official judges to determine the winner of the Cow Pie drop. Attendees anxiously waited to see if a cow pie would drop in their square and be a winner of $200, $300, or $1000. The $1000 winner of the 30th annual cow pie drop was Dick Terry. A special thank you goes to Ironstone Vineyards, the Kautz Family and the Bret Harte FFA Boosters for helping to make this annual event a success. We hope everyone will come to see where the Cow Pie drops next year and continue supporting the agricultural youth of the Bret Harte FFA Chapter! Just another example of how we have been striving for excellence since 1973.

Limited seating still available for the complimentary luncheon, but is expected to reach capacity before the Oct. 20 deadline. The event from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 754 5919 now for reservations. “The appearance of well known Sacramento television personality Tina Macuha has prompted reservations from residents outside Calaveras County, as well as overwhelming response from locals,” notes Planning Committee member Sandie Lema. Tina will share her personal journey as a ten year breast cancer survivor. She has appeared on CW 31’s Good Day Sacramento morning show since its inception and shared her battle with breast cancer with viewers over the years.
