Starting as a furniture, feed, fabric and appliance business in the original 1500 sq. ft. location proved to not meet the needs of the community. Hank and Mat were now raising their young family, and seeing the potential growth and needs of Calaveras County purchased acres of land in 1960 just on the edge of town. They built and developed the first shopping center in the county. He anchored his 27,000 sq. ft. furniture, appliance, hardware, and gift shop with a local bank and grocery store....

$50,000 Grant Given For Butte Fire Rebuilding Efforts...Contractors & Funds Needed For 80 Homes

San Andreas, CA...A $50,000 grant from the California Endowment was given to Calaveras Recovers recently through the Amador Community Foundation, which is the fiscal sponsor of the local group dedicated to recovery from the Butte Fire. In April, concrete foundations were poured for the first two homes being built by Calaveras Recovers for the uninsured survivors of last year’s Butte Fire. Licensed general building contractors and specialty contractors such as plumbing, electrical, sheet rock, roofing and painting contractors are encouraged to join up with Calaveras Recovers, by attending a meeting such as next Monday, May 2, 2016 at the LDS Church in San Andreas.
Native Plant Society Held A Native Plant Sale And Information Day At CCWD Headquarters

San Andreas, CA...The Sierra Foothills Chapter of the California Native Plant Society held a native plant sale on April 16 at CCWD’s headquarters. Hundreds of plants, including trees, shrubs, bulbs, perennials, grasses and water-wise plants, were available for purchase. Educational booths were also set up to impart the virtues of native plants. The USFS was also on hand with pine tree seedlings for local landowners.
