Big Trees State Park, CA...Big Trees State Park will host “Hiking Across The Sierra” Seminard by Lee Terkelsen on Saturday May 3rd from 10am-12pm. Lee is a recently retired school teacher who also produces videos and DVD's on various outdoors topics. Big Trees, CA...Reports are coming in that the Calaveras Bomb Squad and members of an armed services explosives unit spent quite a bit of time at a residence in the Big Trees area. We just spoke with Captain Clay Hawkins of the Calaveras Bomb Squad and they were called in at the request of a detective who was working a related case. They found quite a stash of explosives. San Andreas, CA...After a round of public meetings, including a study session with the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors, and much public dialogue we can report the following to you. We confirmed that the Building Department changed the way they “interpret” our current Fire and Life Safety Code mid year 2007. They were strongly challenged for taking this new position and we did have some limited success in softening the impact. Where the mitigation since 1992 was to pave the driveway, that is no longer the rule of the land....

Blue Lake Springs, CA.....A part time Blue Lake Springs resident, was getting ready to take a shower last night, and was faced with a little surprise....a bat had taken up residence in the shower curtain. He went to corral the critter to move outdoors, but with his lacking skills in bat-catching, he tried to capture it in a ever so popular Trader Joe's bag. Well, he was unsuccessful....instead he was bitten on the hand..... |

Angels Camp, CA...We had the pleasure to talk for a few minutes with Ray Waller, the former head Calaveras County Building official on the ongoing driveway slope controversy. For those of you who may not remember the county stopped issuing permits for development on parcels where the driveway slope exceeds 16%. This has numerous parcels currently tied up in protraced if not uncloseable escrows and has thrown the value of hundreds of millions of dollars of county real estate and homes into question. We wanted to talk with Ray about this issue because he was with the county and the building department when the original county ordinance was created to comply with state code 4290...
