The 2014 Mokelumne Hill 4th Of July Parade...Also Known As Michael DellOrto Day

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/06/2014 08:08 PM
Mokelumne Hill, CA....The quaint village of Mokelumne Hill was packed on July 4th as the Annual Fourth of July Parade rolled down Main Street. It is an annual party as the extended Moke Hill family dons their red, white & blue and celebrates our nations birth and the history and community of Mokelumne Hill. This year the Grand Marshal of the parade was Mokelumne Hill's own Michael DellOrto. Not only was he the Grand Marshall but the firehouse, also known as his second home, was named in his honor. Mr. DellOrto is not only a former Calaveas County Supervisor but he has been and is a lynchpin of the community and helps keep it rolling along year after year....

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 07/03/2014 10:37 PM
Calaveras County, Ca...The newest addition to Arcadia Publishing’s popular Images of America series is Olives in California’s Gold Country by Salvatore Manna and Terry Beaudoin. The book boasts more than 200 vintage images and memories of the olive in the Gold Country. The history of the olive in the Gold Country of Northern California is a story of the Spanish in the New World, of the Gold Rush, of immigrants from Italy and other Mediterranean countries, of bold pioneers, enterprising farmers and scientists, and of businessmen and businesswomen. Focusing on Calaveras County in the south and Placer County in the north, but also exploring the olive throughout most of Northern California, including olive havens such as Corning and Oroville, that story is told within these pages through rare and fascinating photographs. For those who wish to explore the olive in Northern California, whether its history, industry or technology, this volume provides both an appetizer and a satisfying entrée. As love of the olive grows, for the first time a book tells the tale of the olive tree, the king of trees, in the Mother Lode of California...

4-H Wants You - To Make The Best Better!

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 07/02/2014 08:59 PM
Calaveras County, Ca...4-H can trace its roots to the early part of last century when County Extension Offices were trying to increase knowledge among local farmers. The County Extension Offices began teaching youth about new and innovative farming practices, hoping their parents would take notice, and they did. Over the years 4-H has evolved to become one of the largest positive youth development programs in the nation. It has grown to offer projects for five to eighteen year olds in pretty much any topic imaginable. Recently Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, and Tuolumne counties pooled their resources to form the state’s first Multi-County Partnership, the UC Cooperative Extension Central Sierra. Together we are working to improve the lives of young people throughout the region, while keeping our county 4-H identities. The Central Sierra 4-H program is looking to build capacity by increasing the amount and types of projects offered to youth in our four counties. Do you have a passion you want to share? Do you love kids? We provide training and support so you wouldn’t be doing this in the dark. We are adding projects in all four counties. Possible projects may include robotics, cultural arts, soap making, entomology, ballroom dancing, and so much more....
