Quorum Health Consulting Contract Decision Pushed Back At MTHCD Board Meeting |

San Andreas, CA...The biggest item on yesterday's Mark Twain Health Care District Board meeting was pushed back until the August 24th meeting. There may need to be some state specific contract adjustments. The agenda item was: "Consider approval of an agreement with Quorum Health Resources LLC for a financial, operational and strategic assessment of hospital operations to determine the District’s ability to sustain itself as an independent hospital and identify alternatives if independence is not an option"

Traffic Update....Road Construction On Hwy 26 This Week |

Calaveras County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various road construction activities on State Route 26 (SR-26) from Savage Way, south of Valley Springs, to the Calaveras/Amador County line. Work will occur as follows: One-way traffic control on eastbound and westbound SR-26 from Savage Way to Paloma Road for paving operations beginning on Sunday, July 31, 2016, through Friday, August 5, 2016, from 7:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. One-way traffic control on eastbound and westbound SR-26 from Hogan Dam Road to West SR-12 in Valley Springs for utility work beginning Monday, August 1, 2016, through Friday, August 5, 2016, from 7:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

Mokelumne Hill, CA....Firefighters on ground and air are working a 2-3 acre vegetation fire west of Hwy 49 in the Mokelumne Hill area. The fire has a potential to be a 10-15 acre fire. Please use caution in the area...(Update as of 1:59pm...forward progress stopped at 5 acres and some resources being released.)

Calaveras County Public Health Issues Heat Advisory To Residents |

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County Public Health Services has issued a heat advisory for the County. We urge the public to act now to prevent heat-related illness. Temperatures of 100 degrees or more are expected over the next several days. Dr. Kelaita, County Health Officer, stated, “Taking action now can prevent the possibility of heat-related illness. Some health conditions such as obesity, fever, dehydration, heart disease, poor circulation, sunburn and drug/alcohol use can make it harder for the body to say cool in hot weather.”

Sacramento, CA...I have just returned from the most recent Governor’s Tree Mortality Committee meeting in Sacramento and wanted to take a moment to update you with new developments and information. The most recent Ariel Survey of tree mortality was performed on 5/19/16 and is reporting that there are approximately 693,000 dead trees in Calaveras County, and an additional 7.2 Million dead trees in the Sequoia National Forest. There is approximately 37 Million dollars allocated to the USFS for tree removal and has been funded for startup costs for crews working high hazard Counties. In the event of a major wild fire these funds could be diverted if the need arises.

Beth Childs/Genna Hurst Scholarship Awarded by Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) |

San Andreas, CA...The Beth E. Childs/ Genna Hurst Renewable Scholarship administered by the Calaveras Community Foundation was presented during the Awards night at Calaveras High School in early June. The 2016 scholarship committee selected Kelly Baird as the recipient. Kelly, an ambitious young woman with a 4.306 GPA, is the daughter of proud parents, Hope and Richard Baird of West Point. Kelly will attend UC Berkeley where she will enroll as a undeclared Social Science major. Kelly has varied interests one of which is history. As stated in her application, “College is a place where I plan to explore, grow and learn. I want to make a difference in the world, and help people by helping them understand themselves.”

Arnold, CA...(Update as of 9:45am Tuesday morning. Thank You!!! As of right now our first show has had 15,368 Views!!) Tonight is the Premier of "The One Percent" it gets its name from the USDA Study that ranked all 3,111 counties in the lower 48 based on the "natural amenities index". The index hopes to be "a measure of the physical characteristics of a county area that enhance the location as a place to live." Calaveras came in as the 14th ranked county in the whole nation. Our neighbors to the south, north and east all ranked high but came in just a bit lower than Calaveras. So if you average our the counties in our coverage area they all score in the top one percent of places to live in the US.
