San Andreas, CA...More than 110 local students and teachers enjoyed an enlightening, progressive dinner with 17 enthusiastic science professionals at the 2017 Calaveras/Amador “Dinner with a Scientist” on Thursday, November 16 in Calaveras River Academy/Mountain Oaks gymnasium in San Andreas. The evening was hosted by the Calaveras County Office of Education with funding from the Teichert Foundation.

California Hospital Association’s Rural Healthcare Center Advisory Board Taps Mark Twain Medical Center CEO Bob Diehl as New Appointee to Focus on Access to Care for Rural Hospitals |

San Andreas, CA...Dignity Health announced that Bob Diehl, President and CEO of Mark Twain Medical Center, has been named to the California Hospital Association’s Rural Healthcare Center Advisory Board. Diehl’s three-year term begins Jan. 1, 2018. “I’m excited to join an advisory board that is committed to meeting the healthcare needs of patients in rural communities,” said Diehl. “In today’s challenging and ever-changing health care environment, I look forward to advancing successful best-practices of California’s rural hospitals. I’m honored.”

Arnold, CA...Winter has arrived along the West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada according to the National Weather Service. Today Rain at lower elevations...and rain and snow at higher elevations. Highs 35 to 50 higher elevations...44 to 59 lower elevations. No snow accumulation lower elevations...3 to 5 inches higher elevations. Snow level 6500 feet increasing to above 8000 feet in the afternoon. Prevailing southeast winds 10 to 20 mph, gusts up to 55 mph in the afternoon. Over ridges...prevailing southwest winds 15 to 30 mph increasing to 25 to 45 mph in the afternoon with gusts up to 65 mph. Tonight At lower elevations, heavy rain. At higher elevations, heavy rain and heavy snow in the evening, then heavy rain after midnight. Windy. Lows 29 to 43 higher elevations...41 to 47 lower elevations. Snow accumulation 2 to 4 inches. Snow level above 8000 feet. Prevailing south winds 15 to 30 mph with gusts to around 60 mph...except southwest 30 to 50 mph with gusts to around 75 mph over ridges.

West Point, CA...A 29 year old Wilseyville woman driving her 2008 Hyndai westbound on Hwy 26 west of Toloma Ct. at an undetermined rate of speed. For an undetermined reason, she allowed her vehicle to travel off the road and onto the north dirt shoulder. The front of the vehicle collided with a tree. She exited the vehicle and with assistance of from passing motorists was able to remove her daughter from the rear seat of the vehicle.

Indoor Marijuana Grow Eradicated in Mokelumne Hill |

Mokelumne Hill, CA...On 11/13/2017 Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office deputies served a search warrant for an illegal indoor marijuana grow operation at a residence in the 8000 block of Hwy 49, Mokelumne Hill. After securing the scene, Sheriff’s deputies located 1506 marijuana plants, 12.59 pounds of processed marijuana packed in individual plastic bags and a scale.

To keep it that way he is an active runner, plays basketball every week and hikes with his wife. But, he is always aware that stress looms as a big health threat. Mark is sharing his personal experience as a spokesperson for the local “Tackle Your Health” awareness campaign during Men’s Health Month in November. This public education effort is co-sponsored by Mark Twain Medical Center and the Mark Twain Health Care District.
