Evacuations Orders in Effect for the Maria Fire. Now 50 Acres & 5% Contained

Mokelumne Hill, CA...There is fire activity in the Mokelumne Hill/Mountain Ranch Area. Jesus Maria Road is closed between Highway 26 and Music Gulch. The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office is actively monitoring the Maria wildfire that originated in Mokelumne Hill/Mountain Ranch. There are evacuation orders and warnings in effect. For the latest evacuation orders and warnings, please visit the Calaveras OES website. Stay informed with real-time updates by signing up for Emergency Alerts. The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office urges all residents to remain prepared and to follow any evacuation orders or safety instructions from emergency personnel. Maria Fire Update....50 Acres, 5% Contained, Access to Fire Perimeter is Difficult

Mokelumne Hill, CA...Firefighters are continuing to fight the 50 acre fire that is 5% contained. Access to the fire perimeter is difficult. Many resources are responding from out of the area to assist. Resources at scene include 14 engines, 3 water tenders, 8 crews, 7 dozers, and overhead. Temperatures are expected to be around 102-106 degrees with gusty winds this afternoon. For public information please call (209) 754-5527.

Domestic Violence Arrest Leads to Six Felony Charges

West Point, CA...On June 27, 2024, at about 5:30 PM, deputies contacted the victim of a domestic violence incident that occurred a few days earlier in the 2000 block of Lily Gap Road, West Point. The victim told deputies they arrived home to find suspect Jordan Fox Peters, age 27, of West Point, apparently under the influence of drugs. The victim explained that suspect Jordan has a history of violence while under the influence of drugs and did not feel safe being around him in his intoxicated condition.

Stolen Skid Steer Recovered in West Point

West Point, CA...On July 1st, 2024, at about 04:00 p.m., The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office served a search warrant in the 1800 block of Jurs Road in West Point that led to the recovery of a stolen skid steer tractor valued at over $40,000. The tractor was reported stolen by a rental company in the Sacramento area and, through investigative efforts, was located at the property in West Point.

Robert "Bob" Keith Reeve Passed Away on June 29th. Services will be on September 13th

Valley Springs, CA...Robert "Bob" Keith Reeve, 81, of Valley Springs, San Andreas, and Mokelumne Hill, passed away peacefully on June 29, in Lodi, CA. Born in Los Angeles, to John and Dorothy (Tolman) Reeve, in his younger years he enjoyed surfing and watching Wild Bill Hickok movies. Graduating from John Muir High School, he then served a 3-year mission for the LDS church (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) in Brazil, 1962-65.

Arnold, CA...An Excessive Heat Warning starts this morning at 11am and continues until 8pm on Sunday for most of our area. The high county will provide some cooling as typically there is at least a 20 degree shift in temps from the Hwy 49 level. It will be breezy at times as well which will make our fire risk extreme.
