Mountain Ranch, CA...Judith Anne Marshall passed away on August 15, 2019. She died at Mark Twain Hospital with her son by her side. She was battling brain cancer. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 5, 1943, she was 76 years old. Judith graduated from the University of Oregon and worked as a social worker.

Bret Harte, Summerville, Sonora & Argonaut Started Football Season With Losses |

Angels Camp, CA....All of the Mother Lode League Varsity Football Teams kicked off the 2019 campaign in the loss column. The shorthanded Bret Harte varsity football team dropped Friday's away non-conference game against Orestimba in Newman 48-7. The Sonora varsity football team lost their historic rivalry game against Oakdale 41-7. The Summerville Bears lost Friday's home non-conference game against Mariposa County 30-24. Argonaut lost Friday's away non-conference game against El Dorado 21-13. Calaveras & Amador get their seasons underway next week.

Pink Shoes Kicking up Excitement for Steps to Kick Cancer Luncheon |

San Andreas, CA...Pink shoes will be parading around Calaveras County prior to and at the Steps to Kick Cancer Luncheon on Oct. 24 at Mark Twain Medical Center. “Pink is the well known signature color for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October,” notes Debbie Sellick, president of the Calaveras Cancer Support Group. “So we figure it’s appropriate to have pink shoes kicking up excitement for this great event.” The luncheon is from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Rail Road Flat, CA...This scheduled road closure of North Railroad Flat Road from Noble Road to Wells Fargo Station Road is taking place under a utility encroachment permit with Volcano Telephone to underground the existing aerial facilities. Emergency vehicles and residents who live in the construction area will be granted access as needed. Associated Office to State Route 26 and State Route 26 to Ridge Road through Rail Road Flat are the alternate routes for through traffic.

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its fourth annual State of the County Breakfast on Friday, September 6, 2019 at The Metropolitan located at 59 Main Street in San Andreas. Doors will open at 7:00am with the program scheduled for 7:30am till 9:00am. This event will serve as a forum to highlight Calaveras County’s accomplishments over the last year and discuss goals for the future.
