Calaveras County to Provide Sand Bags and Sand for Flood Protection During Severe Storms |

With the upcoming winter season bringing the threat of heavy rain, the Calaveras County Department of Public Works will continue to provide sand and sandbags to the public and free of charge when severe storms present significant and extensive flooding potential that could be disastrous to life and property.

Mountain Ranch, CA...In 1950, we started out as a family operation with Erich’s father and mother, August and Freida Sender, in a century-old adobe building. The upstairs was home to the Sender family, and the first floor included groceries, a meat market, a bar, and a small eating place called Opa’s Smokehouse. On Christmas morning in 1968, the old store was destroyed by fire. But in June 1969, Sender’s Market, Inc. was opened. Since that time, there have been many changes, including remodeling, expansion, and the addition of many employees. That’s also when we added the truss plant and purchased Sender’s Market Ace Hardware in Valley Springs. Today, we're still family owned and still working hard to stock everything from pantry essentials to power tools. Simi Valley Man Loses Life in Rail Road Flat Road Collision |

West Point, CA...A 67 year old Simi Valley man was driving his Ford pickup southbound on Railroad Flat Rd. at an unknown rate of speed when he allowed it to drift off the west side of the roadway and up an embankment. His F250 overturned down the embankment and landing directly on its roof in the southbound traffic lane. He was trapped in his vehicle until he was removed by fire department personnel. Unfortunately, he sustained fatal injuries as a result of this collision. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

Arnold, CA...We need snow in the high country and we need to put an end to the fire season. The forecast for the end of the week may not do much to help either but let's hope the storm door is starting to creak open. The latest from the National Weather Service for the West Slope and Mother Lode is below...Detailed forecast for West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada. Today Mostly sunny. Highs 61 to 76 higher elevations...73 to 83 lower elevations. Prevailing east winds up to 10 mph shifting to the west in the afternoon. Tonight Mostly clear. Lows 36 to 51 higher elevations...46 to 60 lower elevations. Prevailing north winds up to 10 mph shifting to the east after midnight.
