Posted by: Kim_Hamilton on 03/17/2011 11:50 AM
Bear Valley, CA.....Bear Valley Cross Country hosts its final event of the ski season with Tom’s Race on Saturday, April 9, 2011. The 10 kilometer race is classic skiing (striding) only. No skating is allowed in this particular event. Registration begins at 8:30 am with a 10:00 am start. Tom’s race was started as a memorial to Paul Tom Reichle of Santa Cruz who was an avid cross country skier and racer. Tom was big, did not ski fast, but always drew friends in to the sport and the races he entered. He often won the party but never cared about where he finished. ....

Hey Good People! 6″ of new snow overnight. Warm temps have given us a fair amount of moisture so far in this storm.Nearly 2″ of water with only 6″ of snow means heavy wet conditions. Outside the boundary travel is NOT recommended! Grizz Bowl will be closed today to give the heavy wet snow a chance to bond to the recent new snow surface. There will be a chance of snow through out the day today. The avalanche advisory is 3considerable, check the forecast at sierraavalanchecenter.org for more on that and ride safe and responsible!!! Peace Out, Mattly
Bear Valley, CA....Randonee racing is a competitive form of ski touring that has been popular in Europe for decades. Participants compete in a timed event where they must move through a course comprised of ascents (requiring skins and boot packing) and traditional ski descents on varied terrain. Although there are many events throughout the country, Bear Valley is the only place on the West Coast to host a race on the USSMA calendar this year -the “BV Randonee Series”. Anyone who is willing to test their ability to ski, skin and climb is welcome to participate in this rapidly growing sport.....
