Bear Valley, CA...Mattly's weather for April 4th 2014: Scattered snow showers today H-44F and a bluebird morning! 45 Inches of snow from the last systems. This weekend NASTAR, Skier Boarder Cross and great conditions. Time to go play!!





Grab your fiddle! Come join us for a fun afternoon sampling local wines and listening to Jimbly Leg Band on Sat, April 5th 1:30-4 PM! $15 donation includes 8 wine tastes. All proceeds go to Calaveras County Search and Rescue. Participating wineries Hatcher, , Chatom, Twisted Oak, La Folia, and Hovey so far!

Author Ed Pandilfino "Birds of the Sierra Nevada" Seminar April 26

Calaveras Big Trees State Park, CA ... A seminar on bird life and a walk through the Sequoia grove will be offered as the first of a series of free programs planned for this year. Ed Pandilfino, author of the new UC Press book "Birds of the Sierra Nevada," will conduct the seminar between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday April 26 at historic Jack Knight Hall inside the state park. Those who want to start early are encouraged to join Pandilfino for a walk to take a look at local birds beginning at 8 a.m. Pandilfino is president of Western Field Ornithologists, and regional editor for the publication "North American Birds." For the past 25 years he has devoted his life to working in habitat conservation and avian research.His new book contains excellent discussions of birds of the Sierra, both biology and distribution, as well as excellent illustrations. The seminars are free, but there is a day use fee to enter the state park.

Bear Valley, CA....Mother Nature is bringing winter back for another appearance this week with snow down below Arnold and up to another foot of much needed snow at higher elevations. Tonight Rain and snow showers in the evening...then snow showers after midnight. Colder. Lows 12 to 27 higher elevations... 26 to 34 lower elevations. Snow accumulation up to 3 inches lower elevations...5 to 7 inches higher elevations. Snow level 4000 feet. Prevailing southwest winds 5 to 15 mph with gusts to around 30 mph. Over ridges...prevailing southwest winds 30 to 45 mph decreasing to 25 to 35 mph after midnight. Tuesday Mostly cloudy. A chance of snow showers in the morning...then snow showers likely in the afternoon. Highs 25 to 40 higher elevations...36 to 48 lower elevations. Snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches. Prevailing southwest winds up to 15 mph...except southwest 15 to 30 mph over ridges...
