Winter Closure: Ebbetts Pass/State Route 4 in Alpine County

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/12/2014 02:27 PM
Alpine County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has closed State Route 4 (SR-4) for the winter as of Friday, December 12, 2014. The recent storms, and accumulation of snow, make the seasonal closure necessary for the safety of motorists and Caltrans crews. The weather conditions on the pass and subsequent road conditions are among the determining factors in the decision to make the seasonal closure. Once the pass is closed for winter, it will not be reopened until conditions warrant. Each year, Caltrans crews work diligently to clear debris, remove snow and make repairs so the highway can reopen by Memorial Day Weekend...

Hey Good People...15" Of New Snow Overnight And More On Way ~By Mattly Trent

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/12/2014 07:31 AM
Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! 15" of new snow overnight as of 7am!!!!!!!! Today we could see another possible 4-8" and 1-2" as the system moves out. Winds will be out of the South southwest from 7-23 mph. This system finally came and delivered! The warmer beggining of the storm definitely helped with it's ability to bond with the old snow layer and the temps will continue to drop today as the rest of the storm lays it down( colder snow on top of warmer = great powder riding!) It's a great addition to what we have on the ground and will help pave the way to open up some more terrain. Saturday and Sunday looks to be Stellar Bluebird days you all ya'll know what that means...........Get on up to Bear Valley this weekend and get yer Schralp on!!!!!! You can check out this mornings vid around 7:15am and I'll give you a bit more info. Stay tuned............Peace Out, Mattly

Bear Valley, CA...Your favorite ski and snowshoe trails are scheduled to open this Saturday, December 13th. Come up and help us celebrate the start of the winter season! We will endeavor to open up as much terrain as mother nature allows including the new ones from last year that were such a hit. More snow equals more trails so let's hope this storm really produces for us. The Cafe will be open, trails, the store, rentals, ski school and possibly some sledding and tubing. We hope you can make it...

Snow Is On The Way ~ By Mattly Trent

Posted by: thepinetree on 12/10/2014 09:41 AM
Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! Today we'll see a 10% chance of rain after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 52. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 12 to 17 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. As the system approaches it will first be warm then start to cool down and bring snow down to the 4500' level possibly by mid Thursday. The good thing with the warm temps in the beginning is the ability for the warmer snow to bond with the current (on the ground) snow layer. This is an ideal set up for all California Ski Areas. Some forecasters are touting this as the most significant storm of the season so far! Keep those snow dances and shout outs to ULLR going! Peace Out, Mattly
