Bear Valley, CA...The Nickolay Dodov Foundation is part of a nationwide movement to educate youth and all-age winter sports enthusiasts to stay safe in winter environments. Over the last 10 winters an average of 39 people died in avalanches each winter in North America. We believe providing educational presentations of the avalanche awareness program Know Before You Go will help safe lives.

Arnold, CA...Sonora Pass - SR-108 SONORA in Tuolumne County due to approaching storm, Sonora Pass/SR-108 will not open today (Friday, June 9). Status will be re-assessed Saturday. Ebbetts Pass/SR-4 is scheduled to remain closed into July, due to major road damage.

Angels Camp, CA...It was another great group of now young men and women that received their diplomas last Friday night. One of the things that always impresses us about our local schools is the commitment to the kids and our communities that the staff of our schools displays. There is invariably one or two students receiving their diplomas from a mother or father on staff of the school. For much of the staff teaching or serving at our local schools is much more than just a job. It is part of their families future and also legacy. Below are photos and video of the class. For this year most of the group photos have been uploaded at full resolution as well so when you click on many of the photos you will get a much larger image. Inquiring Minds Want To Know: How Does Caltrans Find The Road?

Kennedy Meadows, CA...From Caltrans.."A lot of people wonder how we find the road through all the snow. On SR-108, the Sonora Pass, Caltrans Supervisor Chris Baker informs me that his crew locates the road by electrifying a line that is embedded in the center of the highway. He then uses a locator to detect it and as you see in the photo, puts environmentally friendly marks for the dozer to follow. The dozer then pushes snow down to the blower. And then the blower operators can follow center line from there and widen out the highway. Simple, huh?"
