Murphys, CA...We are proud to announce another new Feature Column here on ThePineTree.net, "Calaveras Uncorked!" Calaveras Uncorked will be a recurring series where we sit down to chat with various members of the great wine industry here in Calaveras County. For our first interview we had the pleasure to spend a few minutes with Scott Klann. Scott Klann has been a fixture in the local wine industry for many years. He is the President of the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance and the Winemaker for Twisted Oak Winery and also Owner and Winemaker for Newsome Harlow Wines in Murphys....

Bear Valley, CA.....On Saturday March 7th, cross country skiers from near and far will assemble in the Bear Valley Meadow for the 36th running of the Bjornloppet Ski Race and Festival. With a 10:30 am start, The Bjornloppet, meaning Bear Race in Norwegian, is enjoyed by young and old alike. There are divisions for all ages and two distances are offered, 20 kilometers (two laps) and 10 kilometers in Saturday’s freestyle (striding or ski skating) race. The mass start is fun to....

Snow, Snow and more Snow!!!! Looks like more is on the way! The weather forecast is for more snow/unsettled weather thru next Wednesday. Skiing/Riding is awesome on a 58" base currently with all aspects on the Mtn. receiving great coverage. Stay tuned to our forecasts for more info and come on up and rip some lines with us. Bear Valley, CA... 6" of new snow as of 5:00am Wednesday. Snow, Snow and more Snow! Looks like more is on the way. The weather forecast is for more snow/unsettled weather thru next Wednesday. Skiing/Riding is awesome on a 67" base currently with all aspects on the Mtn. receiving great coverage. Bear Valley, CA....16" of new snow as of 11:00am Monday morning. A change in the weather is forecasted with snow starting to fall again Tuesday night and into Wednesday night then unsettled weather for the rest of the week. Looks like more on the way! Bear Valley, CA...15" of new snow as of 5:00am Monday morning. A change in the weather is in the forecast with snow that started to fall again Sunday Night and will continue into the week. Looks as though this next system could bring us .06 to .10 inches of water which translates into 4"-8" for the Sunday/Monday storm. The USSA Far West Racing Series Rolled into Dodge Ridge Last Weekend ~By John Hamilton with Links to Over an Hour of Video Enclosed! |

Pinecrest, CA...Young Ski Racers from Bear Valley, Dodge Ridge, Badger Pass and Sierra Summit carved their way down Bobby's Freedom Run in the Annual Ryan Lavagnino Classic at Dodge Ridge Ski Resort last weekend. This was the second of 4 races in the Far West Central Series. The first leg was the Bear Valley Slalom with the second being the Ryan Lavagnino Classic Giant Slalom Race. The 3rd and 4th will be a Super G race on a fast course at Sierra Summit and they will finish up with a Slalom Race in Yosemite at Badger Pass. Almost 130 kids flew down the course with runs on Saturday and Sunday. Our local Bear Valley Team did very will with several first place, podium and top 10 finishes. The Bear Valley team continued their dominance of the Men's J4 Class with all Bear Valley Podiums Saturday and Sunday. Bear Valley's Erik Arvidsson turned in another dominating performance with wins both days in the J4 Class and the fastest overall times of the weekend. The Dodge Ridge race team did very well with...

Two early morning vehicle spinouts on Highway 4 detained us a bit on our way to the slopes today. Both, just east of Black Springs Road, occurred almost simultaneously at about 8:10 a.m. Anticipating four inches of fresh powder at Bear Valley, my son had his snowboard in the back of the F350. But I, noting the swirling snow blown by a cold wind on the roadway, had decided it would be a great day to park myself and my laptop in the warm lodge and, fueled by coffee, attack all my leftover work piles from the week while he shredded on the back side of the Mountain..... |
