Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. Tonight Snow showers likely, mainly after 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 23. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible....

Season's First Winter Stom Moving in Sunday Night |

Bear Valley, CA...The first significant winter storm of the season will move into our area Sunday night. Between Sunday night and Early Tuesday up to 1/2 inch of rain at lower elevations. Above 5,500 feet 6 - 9 inches of snow and up to a foot at the highest elevations is possible. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph are possible over the ridges. The storm warning and special weather statement from the National Weather Service is enclosed...
The graphic above should give you a good indication of weather at the different elevations in the county. It starts at Bear Valley and drops to Arnold, Murphys, Angels Camp and Copperopolis. |

Japanese Educators Visit V.U.S.D. to See Student iPad Use |

Avery, CA...Educators from the Okinawa Amicus International School in Japan recently paid a visit to Hazel Fischer Elementary School and Avery Middle School, an Apple Distinguished School, to see first-hand how the two schools are implementing one-on-one student iPad computing in grades K-8. The Japanese teachers had read in the popular Japanese interior design and lifestyle magazine, Casa Brutus, about Hazel Fischer's iPad implementation in a feature article about the 5th grade class and its collaboration with the tech lab coordinator at the school. During their visit, they also explored policies and practices that facilitate students at Avery Middle School taking home and using school iPads for even greater access to one-to-one computing.

Forest Service Urges Plague Awareness, Precautions After Chipmunk Tests Positive for Plague |

South Lake Tahoe, Calif. – The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is advising visitors to its recreation sites to take precautions against plague after a chipmunk found at Taylor Creek Visitor Center tested positive for the disease. Acting on the recommendations of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the Forest Service and its concessionaire have posted extensive signage in the area of Taylor Creek Visitor Center, the Tallac Historic Site, and Camp Richardson Resort explaining how the disease is transmitted, the symptoms and how to prevent infection. The Forest Service is advising its staff and visitors to report any sick or dead animals immediately...
