Winter Storm Warning in North Central California

Arnold, CA...Active for next 11 hours! Location: West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada. Wintry weather in the mountains of Northern California continuing today. The winter storm that moved through northern California on Tuesday is now moving east of the region. Snow showers will continue however at the higher elevations. Chain controls already in place are likely to continue through the day over the Sierra. Check road conditions before traveling. For Road information call 800-427-7623 (Road).

Two Perish in Avalanche Related Accidents

Truckee, CA...Be extremely careful when skiing in the Sierras at this time. The Sierra Avalanche center has issued a warning and the latest storms have turned fatal twice already. A 49 year old Hirschdale man lost his live in an accident at Donner Ski Ranch yesterday and an 28 year ski patrol veteran was injured and later lost his life at Renown due to injuries sustained in an avalanche caused during avalanche control work.

Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People……….. 5″ of new snow overnight! The storm has slowed down and overnight totals are not quite like the forecast but today looks to ramp itself up a bit and bring a possible 10-14″ of new snow during the day. Another 1-2′ is expected to fall tonight and thru the day on Sunday. Winds will be out of the Southwest to 40mph. It’s the Christmas Holidays, so come on out, bring the Family and enjoy the snow! Hwy 88, Hwy 4 and Hwy 108 all Have Controls in Effect

Arnold, CA...Chain Controls are in effect from 4.5 miles east of Arnold on up on Hwy 4. On Hwy 108 they are in effect 1 mile east of Long Barn. Hwy 88 has intermittent closures at near the Carson Spur for avalanche controls. Controls are in effect from Ham's Station on up on Hwy 88....

Friday morning the next storm will move it’s way into California and will start a good showing of snowfall over the next 3-4 days. 2′-4′ is expected to fall by Monday morning. Snow levels could start out at 4000′ or so and rise to around 5000′ for the remainder of the storm. It’s Christmas Holidays, so come on out, bring the Family and enjoy the snow! Check in daily. Bear Valley, CA...The next storm system is upon us now. It looks like it will be bringing a White Christmas all the way to Christmas. Then you can unpack all your snow toys and go play. On a serious note. Please be prepared for at least a couple of days if your car gets stuck or stranded. The forecast through Christmas. Today... Late Afternoon Rain and snow showers. Snow level 4500 feet. Steady temperature around 37. Southeast wind around 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. Tonight Rain and snow. Snow level 4400 feet. Steady temperature around 36. Southeast wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. Saturday Rain showers before 5pm, then rain and snow showers. Some thunder is also possible. Snow level 4700 feet. Temperature falling to around 31 by noon. South southeast wind 14 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no snow accumulation expected...
