San Andreas, CA....May 1, 2013 Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) Hospital President Craig Marks announced that Ian Renner, MD, will serve patients at the Mark Twain Medical Center Specialty Care Clinic for Gastroenterology and Hepatitis on the hospital campus in San Andreas. "Having access to specialists in Calaveras County is a critical health care need for the community," said Marks, adding "Dr. Renner is a highly respected and skilled physician."

Valley Springs, Ca... Tragedy struck our small community on Saturday, April 27th, 2013, when Leila Fowler, a beautiful 8-year-old little girl, was killed in her Valley Springs home. As news of this tragedy spread throughout Valley Springs and beyond, friends and family rallied to help her family get through this horrible time. Avery, CA...Calaveras County Office of Education is pleased to announce that Avery Middle School in Vallecito Union School District has been selected as a California Department of Education Distinguished School. Avery Middle School has an Academic Performance Index (API) of 861, and has also been named Apple Distinguished School for the past three years...
Avery, CA...On April 17th, a group of Avery Middle School 7th graders gave the VUSD board members and guests a viewing of their social studies project. It was about the famine in Sudan. The students, Avery Schultz, Ben Quist, Connor Landis, Samantha Emerson, Riane Clemens & Sierra Stephens worked very hard on this and the results are amazing.

Angels Camp, CA...The Bret Harte Swim Team is having a great year and looking forward to the MLL League Championships this Friday. We would like to thank Jeff Rasmussen for sending us some shots form a couple of their meets. It has taken us a bit longer to get them posted because we wanted to post them in the higher resolution format that they were sent in. We did so and now we will upload the shots we shoot at events in larger sizes as well. When you are in a photo album you will see a little icon above the photo if it is available in higher resolution suitable for a screen saver or printing. San Andreas, CA...Enclosed is a list of the winners for the countywide 2013 Spelling Bee Championship held on April 18th in San Andreas. Brianna Gilbert, 8th Grade, from Mark Twain Elementary, and Maxwell Stickels, 7th Grade, from Toyon Middle School are the top two students going to the State competition in San Rafael, CA....
American Cancer Society Volunteers Paint Our Towns Purple Relay Ahead of April 27th Celebration

Angels Camp, CA...Towns are becoming awash in purple, thanks to efforts by volunteers from the American Cancer Society’s annual “Relay For Life,” a community campout against cancer. Throughout Calaveras County, towns, schools, and businesses are “painting our towns purple” to celebrate cancer survivorship and bring attention to the yearly event, which will be held on April 27th at Bret Harte High School....
