Deer Hunting Season Starts On The Stanislaus National Forest September 17th

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/16/2016 05:59 PM
Sonora, CA...California’s 2016 general deer season will open on Saturday, Sept. 17 and hunters are reminded about Fire Restrictions and outdoor safety on the forest. Wildfires continue to burn throughout California and much of the state remains at high risk for wildfires. Due to the Fire Restrictions on the High and Moderate Hazard Areas, a person with a valid California Campfire Permit may only use a portable stove or lantern using gas, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid within this area. Fire Hazard Area maps are available at any Forest Service office.

Skyline Bear Valley Invests in Snowmaking and Grooming

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/15/2016 12:24 PM
Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley is thrilled to announce more than $300,000 of improvements in its snowmaking and grooming operations in anticipation of the 2016-17 season. The enhancements include a better and more efficient snowmaking system along with new snowcats to groom the increased production of snow. Bear Valley’s new snowmaking system includes upgraded pumping capacity to the snowmaking holding pond at the top of the mountain. “This will allow us to operate continuously during optimum temperatures for snow making,” says Bear Valley’s snow product manager, Tim Schimke. “The upgrade will provide the ability to move from 500 gallons per minute to nearly 1400 gallons per minute. This important improvement will allow uninterrupted operation of our snowmaking system for weeks at a time, translating into more snow production.”

Mokelumne Fire Remains At 655 Acres & Firefighters Achieve 85% Containment

Posted by: thepinetree on 09/11/2016 09:43 AM
Bear Valley, CA...The fire remains at 655 acres with minimal fire behavior and smoke production. Containment is at 85%. The fire edge is currently confined within natural barriers. Crews will secure and patrol current confinement lines while exercising Minimal Impact Suppression Techniques (M.I.S.T.), and maximizing the use of natural barriers. The helicopter will continue to help support crew efforts on the fire line. This fire is being managed to protect, maintain, and enhance resources while being allowed to function in its natural ecological role. No evacuations or closures have been issued at this time. No campgrounds along Highway 4 are currently impacted by smoke from the Mokelumne Fire. The public is advised to avoid the fire area due to hazardous conditions. Due to steep and inaccessible terrain, heat/smoke may still be present in the interior of the fires perimeter. We will continue to monitor the fire via aerial recons. Incident transitioned from a type 3 to a type 4 on August 6th, 2016. We will begin extracting crews from the fire line today.
