Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! Opening Day Today with the Cub Carpet, Cub Chair and Tubing as well as the start of Winterfest. As the day the day starts to wake up we have 4″ of new snow overnight for a storm total of 17″ so far and a 15″ base currently. The high for today looks to be around 39F and SW winds from 18-31mph as warm air aloft makes it’s way over the forecast area and surface gradients tighten up. Mixed precipitation is expected today and tonight as the temps try to figure out which way they want to go. Saturday afternoon the current system will head East and give way to a few days of clear weather and then next week looks to bring in 2 maybe 3 different snow events but I’ll give that a few days before we nail anything down.

Arnold, CA...We posted a pass closing piece yesterday but this one has additional information on what R1, R2 & R3 Chain Control levels mean. Caltrans is scheduled to close Ebbetts Pass (State Route 4) and Sonora Pass (State Route 108) due to incoming inclement weather in the Sierra Nevada. These closures are currently expected to be temporary and not the long-term, seasonal closures that Caltrans performs on an annual basis.

Arnold, CA...The first of a series of storms will bring moderate to heavy snow to the mountains of Western Plumas County and the Northern Sierra Nevada above 6000 feet Wednesday afternoon into late Wednesday night. This will likely disrupt Thanksgiving holiday travel across Sierra passes. After a brief lull, the next storm is expected late Thursday into Friday, with snow levels expected to rise to around 7000 feet by Friday afternoon.
