Young Players Invited to Free Youth Tennis Clinic |

Angels Camp, CA...Aspiring young tennis players from throughout Calaveras and it neighboring counties are invited to take part in the 16th annual Youth Tennis Clinic to be held at Bret Harte High School, Angels Camp on Saturday, May 9 from 9 to 11 a.m. There is no charge for the clinic that will be led by Angella Woods, a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) member. It is open to elementary through high school students regardless of current ability...

Arnold & Bear Valley, CA...Thanks to Sophia, a walker we met this AM, who gave us a "hot tip". I found Angus on the trail at the end of Sultana around noon.
Heartfelt THANKS to everyone in the Meadowmont community who stepped up to help in the search. We can't cite everyone since we don't know your names, but special thanks to Bob B., Mike M., Nancy and Don, Dave W., Chuck, and many more. What a fantastic group of kind, empathetic, wonderful people live in your community! We shall be grateful to you forever!

Lost Airedale Terrier Angus Is Missing...Help Find Him |

Arnold, CA...Lost Airedale Terrier (black and tan, 65 lbs., neutered 15 mo. old male) named Angus. He was lost May 1 in the community just behind Big Trees Market and has been sited there yesterday and today, May 2. He is friendly, but now is completely scared and may not come to anyone until he is exhausted. He slipped his collar, thus has no ID.We are in Bear Valley (Briggs - 753-2624 or in Monterey area 831-626-2624) If he can be caught, Arnold Vet has been notified and would be willing to take him in...

Bear Valley, CA...Last week mother nature blessed us with over a foot of snow in the high country. It closed the passes again for a few days before they could be reopened. Laurie Ahlberg used the opportunity to go get a few more turns in on her skis and say goodbye to winter. Thanks Laurie!!

Mountain Passes Open: Ebbetts, Monitor & Sonora are all open |

Lake Alpine, CA...The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has removed the snow, cleared the debris and made the necessary repairs to reopen State Route 4 (SR-4) over Ebbetts Pass on Monday, April 27, 2015, at approximately 1:30 p.m. In addition, crews reopened Monitor Pass (SR-89) in Alpine County and Sonora Pass (SR-120) in Tuolumne County today....

Bret Harte High School Cybullfrogs Club Receives Grant from Calaveras Community Foundation |

Angels Camp, CA...Cybullfrogs, a Bret Harte High School LegoRobotics club has received a $9993.00 grant from the Calaveras Community. The money will be used to buy hardware and software to allow more students to participate in the hands-on building of programmable robots. In March, 2014, a small group of Bret Harte students approached Timothy Randall, Math teacher, and Ken Baldwin, Drafting and Digital Photography teacher, with a desire to start a robotics club. The teachers volunteered as mentors and organizers and with the help of a grant from the Tyler Orsow Foundation and seed money from Bret Harte, the club was able to purchase four Lego Mindstorms kits....
