Bear Valley, CA...Sunday morning is the 20th annual Bear Valley Triathlon. This mini-tri includes a 600 yard swim, followed by a 10.5 mile bike leg and 3.4 mile run. Race start is at 10:00am at the Bear Valley Lake big beach. Awards ceremony, raffle and event BBQ follow. Sunday afternoon, the Bear Valley Business Association presents a FREE outdoor concert featuring the highly acclaimed Murphy’s band, “Descendants of Prospectors”. This show takes place at the new Creekside Park, adjacent to the Village Center & Skyhigh Pizza Pub. Bring your friends and check out this dynamic band in a magical setting. Music is from 4:00pm to 7:30pm. Skyhigh Pub is open for dine-in or take out and offers a full bar for your cocktail hour libations...

Bear Valley, CA...This Saturday, Sept 1st, 2012 of Labor Day weekend will be the 5th Annual Bear Valley Soap Box Derby. Children and adults are encouraged to attend and race. So come on up and hop into a Soap Box Derby Car. There will also be CLIMBING WALLS, EURO BUNGEES, PETTING ZOO'S, PONY RIDES, WATER WARS, GLADIATOR BATTLES, and even a station where you can change a tire using pneumatic tools....

Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley Village is set to host an end of summer extravaganza over the Labor Day holiday weekend. Look forward to four days of activities and events for all ages. Things kick-off Friday evening with a FREE family movie night, outside at the new Creekside Park. “Cars II” will be shown on a jumbo screen with surround sound. The movie gets going just after dark. Bring snacks, chairs, blankets, etc. Skyhigh Pizza Pub will also be open for food to go for the show....

Angels Camp, CA...Live On!, a Calaveras County non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the silence and stigma associated with suicide is having their 3rd Annual Walk-a-Thon on Saturday, September 15, 2012. It will be held from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon at Bret Harte High School in Angels Camp. There will be a kids booth with crafts, snacks and supervision. Nationwide over 32,000 people die by suicide per year. Over 3,500 of those deaths are in California and Calaveras County has had double the national suicide rate per capita the last few years...

Ganns Meadow, CA...Demobilization has been underway for several days and there are only 75 personnel left on the fire as of today. Fire crews are mainly involved with patrolling established fire lines and mopping-up hot spots remaining in the interior of the fire. A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team will be assigned to the incident to assess the fire area for needed rehabilitation. Burned area rehabilitation means to repair or improve lands damaged by the fire that are unlikely to recover on their own. The extent of repair will vary depending upon intended use of the forest after the fire. BAER Teams are intended to reduce further damage to land being temporarily exposed while in a fragile condition.yelllow jacket stings continue to be an issue for response personnel....
