Might Be the Best Day of The Season - 113" Storm Total
Posted by: thepinetree on 01/24/2017 11:16 AM
Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! Clear skies and crisps morning temps are what's happening currently here at Bear Valley. The recent storm totals are off the hook with 113" for the storm total and 144" for our current base. The Mtn Ops team made incredible headway yesterday and as most of you know we chose to close so we can recover and move mega amounts of snow. Just wait until you see the main bowl area!!! Today we expect the high to come in around 26F with ENE winds from 0-6 mph and a slight chance of snow showers. High pressure will make it's way into the area by later this afternoon and bring sunshine for the next 4-5 days and some possible breezy conditions come Friday as the pressure gradient tightens up a bit. We're still assessing the Lwr mtn for Avalanche hazards which remain at 3 Considerable currently but patience is the key here. Ski Patrol was able to start control work on the Lower Mountain Monday off the Gunmount and will be heading down there again today to continue that work. Until then copious amounts of quality riding is to be had on the frontside/backside and village sides of our Mtn. Stay safe, ride with a friend and be aware of deep tree wells as they are abundant inbounds and in the soft boundaries. Come on up and check out our local "Pure Mtn Fun" ethos and stay tuned..........

Working Structure Fire In Tamarack Area...Update: Fire Damaged Tamarack Pines Inn
Posted by: thepinetree on 01/23/2017 03:49 PM
Tamarack, CA...(Update as of 5:55pm...we would like to thank TCU Command for letting us know that it was the Tamarack Pines Inn and updating us on the fire. The fire in the structure has been knocked down and fire is now confined to the propane tanks behind the structure.) A very sad post as we just confirmed with Cal-Fire TCU command that firefighters are working an active structure fire at the Tamarack Lodge. It is unknown the extent of the involvement but when firefighters arrived there was smoke showing and they are attacking the fire... Update as of 4:28pm..We have been working to establish size and extent of the fire. The address also resolves to the The Tamarack Pines Inn which is a smaller bed and breakfast nearby. While still a sad event if this structure is damaged it would be much easier to rebuild or repair. Update as of 4:59pm....eastbound lane is blocked by fire equipment...

Hey Good People!! 71 Inches From This Storm System & More To Fall!! ~ Mattly Trent
Posted by: thepinetree on 01/22/2017 01:53 PM
Bear Valley, CA...Hey Good People! 6" of new snow fell overnight as of 5am and winds are starting to pick up. We could see another 11-17" fall during the day today and winds are expected to increase this morning to around 24-34mph with some gusts to 50mph. The bulk of heavier winds will take place mostly in the am hours as the low pressure pushes onshore and warming convection from the days sunrise etc. By noon the winds should start to decrease somewhat as the system pushes farther East. Another 10-14" is expected to fall tonight and 2-4" is slated for Monday as the system presses East and comes to a close by late Monday night/early Tuesday morning. We're still assessing the Lwr mtn for Avalanche hazards which remain at a 4 High currently but patience is the key here. With the storm intensifying today it will remain closed. Until then copious amounts of quality riding is to be had on the frontside/backside and village sides of our Mtn. Stay safe, ride with a friend and be aware of deep tree wells as they are abundant inbounds and in the soft boundaries. Too Much Snow? Really? Bear Valley To Use Monday Catch Up On Over 6.5 Feet Of New Snow!
Posted by: thepinetree on 01/22/2017 07:14 PM
Bear Valley, CA...Ironic, but, yes, that is the situation. After over 6.5 feet of snow in the last 4 days and the expectation for another 18 inches overnight we plan to close operations on MONDAY JAN 23rd to recover our infrastructure. The massive amount of snow combined with high winds and road closures forced many California resorts to shut down on Sunday. We are thankful to our operation teams for making a heroic effort to get open today and provide a full weekend of skiing/riding on the fresh powder that so many of our guests love. However the storm cycle continues and strengthens overnight and into tomorrow morning.
