Yosemite Fire Update July 27, 2014 El Portal Fire |

Yosemite, CA...As you are aware, we are experiencing a wildland fire that started yesterday in the Old El Portal region. This fire has been fast moving and there has been incredible firefighting work done to protect employees, residents and the park. The fire team made significant progress on the fire today. The fire area is approximately 2,600 acres. Here is some important information:....

Plymouth, CA....The Sand Fire Burning east of Hwy 49 5 miles north of Plymouth has now consumed 4,000 acres and is 20% Contained. They have not issued a full morning update yet but there have been some adjustments to last night's estimates. It was started by a vehicle off the roadway and into dry grass. 10 Homes and 7 outbuildings have now been destroyed. Evacuations: Sand Ridge Road, Fresh Water, Burlwood, Morales Ranch Road, Vintage Trail, Upton Road, Twin Rivers Road New Evacuations in progress; Vintage Road to Sandridge Road, Buzzards Gulch Road and all of Buzzards Gulch Road. Yosemite July Lightning Fire Update #1 |

Yosemite, Ca...Since July 14, Yosemite National Park has experienced over 3,000 lightning strikes with more than 21 fire starts. Multiple thunderstorms, accompanied by rain, have put out or temporarily slowed activity and growth. Most fires are between 8000’ and 9000’ elevation. They are small, creeping and smoldering surface fires or single logs less than 1/10 of an acre and are showing minimal activity. Of 1,004 fires above 8,000’ since 1930, 941 never got to be 10 acres. Most of these fires have few values at risk an pose little threat to people or park infrastructure. As the weather warms and fuels dry out it is likely other fires will be found. All fires are being monitored by fire crews. Fires Managed for Multiple Objectives: Yosemite fire management is developing strategies for these fires and depending on risk assessment; most of these current fires will be naturally extinguished. Fire crews will utilize natural barriers of granite, streams or open ground to manage fires. The Fire Management Plan allows the park to manage any fire outside of the suppression unit....

Lightning hits the Stanislaus National Forest - Fire personnel prepared |

| Sonora, Ca…Stanislaus National Forest (STF) fire personnel are actively suppressing three fires that started as a result of the most recent weather event; approx. 400 lightning strikes occurred over the forest. Two of the lightning fires are located in the Crabtree Rd. / Aspen Meadows area, and the third is located in the area of Bummers Flat. Each fire is currently under a quarter of an acre; more lightning events are expected over the next few days. “Our goal is to attack the fires while they’re still small, and hit them hard,” said Chris Schow, Forest Fire Chief. “We are also continuing to monitor for other potential fire starts, using both ground personnel and air assets.” All three lightning fires have fire personnel assigned, with significant progress being made to secure fire lines around each of the fires. Since 1970, fire personnel have caught over 98 percent of wildfires at less than 100 acres... |

Vehicle Fire Near Copperopolis on July 10th, 2014 |

Copperopolis, Ca....At approximately 2:30 on July 10th, 2014, on highway 4 near Copperopolis, vehicle was towing a camper trailer up the grade when it caught fire. 4 1/2 acres of vegetation burned when the vehicle pulled over to the side of the road....

Fire Update...Smoke In The TCU Mostly From Monticello Fire |

San Andreas, CA...Our local CAL-FIRE TCU's Lisa Williams wanted us to let you know that the bulk of the smoke in our area is from the Monticello Fire that has now burned 7,000 acres in the Sonoma - Lake - Napa Unit around Lake Berryessa. They have had a large amount of inbound traffic regarding our smoky skies. The bad news is from a fire...the good news it is not in our area. But let's all be prepared as we are just an ignition away from one here...

Fire Update....Crews Working Vegetation Fire Near Lake McClure |

| Snelling, CA....Fire Fighters are working a 5-6 acre vegetation fire near Lake McClure. It looks like they will be able to get this one knocked down before it has the chance to grow into a major conflagration. They hit this one hard from the ground and air and are now backing off the rest of the incoming resource requests. Great work everyone!! |

Cause Determined on Recent Fires |

San Andreas, CA...Law Enforcement officials with the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) have released causes on three fires that occurred over the last week. The Reed Fire in San Andreas, which burned 109 acres and destroyed two structures, was caused by a grinding operation. The Oak Fire on Pool Station Road near Copperopolis, which burned 88 acres and destroyed one structure, was caused by a grinding operation. The Rawhide fire on Rawhide Road near Jamestown, which burned one acre, was also caused by a grinding operation. These metal-on-metal activities produced a large amount of sparks that landed in dry vegetation and started these three fires....

San Andreas, CA... Each year illegal and misused fireworks cause serious injuries and damaging wildfires. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is taking a zero tolerance stand against anyone possessing, transporting or using illegal fireworks. The penalties for possessing, transporting or using illegal fireworks ranges from a misdemeanor up to felony charges plus the cost incurred for fire suppression. Illegal fireworks in California are those that explode, leave the ground, or move about uncontrollably. Illegal fireworks include sky rockets, bottle rockets, and roman candles. Use of any fireworks which causes an injury or fire may result in a citation or arrest...

"Playing With Fire" Determined To Be Stage Fire Cause |

Mountain Ranch, CA...The Stage Fire that broke out yesterday afternoon is now controlled and enclosed is the final release on the fire. The fire burned 3.1 acres and there were no physical injuries or structures destroyed. Units from Cal-Fire and Central Fire worked the blaze. Some lingering embarrassment most likely be around for awhile for the person who was playing with fire that was determined to be the source of the ignition....
