Calaveras County, CA...Calaveras County author Sal Manna will autograph his new book, “The King of Sting: The Amazing True Story of a Modern American Outlaw,” a true crime biography penned with its subject, Craig Glazer, on Friday, August 1, from 5-7 p.m. at the Ice Cream Depot in the Historic Valley Springs Train Depot (corner of Hwys. 12 and 26). Recently #1 in True Crime Biographies on Amazon.com, the book has been called “a high-flying, adrenaline-filled story”....

Whether a farm or garden is organic, conventional, big, or small; we need them all. In the foothills Hawaii, a shockingly high percentage of the food we eat is imported. Our food supply could easily be threatened by shipping problems, weather, or global events. It is imperative that we increase the amount of food we are producing and decrease the percentage we are importing.....

Take advantage of the summer sunlight to help reduce weeds, diseases and pests in your soil with a process called solarization. All you need is some thin, transparent plastic sheeting, some sunny days and a little patience, for the process can take 8 to 10 weeks. During June through August, the sunlight is powerful enough to solarize soil. Solarization is like the cleansing process that takes place in a compost pile. When the soil temperature rises under the plastic, microorganisms that prefer warmer temperatures flourish and attack many of the harmful organisms.....

Cat fleas are frequently encountered in homes and are common pests on domestic cats and dogs. Dog fleas look like cat fleas, but are rare in California. Fleas on either cats or dogs in California are most likely cat fleas. Adult fleas are very small insects (up to 1/8 inch). Female cat fleas remain on the host (unlike most other fleas) and lay about 20 to 30 eggs per day on the animal. The eggs are smooth; they readily fall from the pet and land on surfaces like bedding and carpeting in the animal’s environment. They hatch in about 2....

Art's of Bear Valley Summer Show Will Run Concurrently with Bear Valley Music Fest!

Bear Valley, CA....This is the 18th Year for the Arts of Bear Valley Summer Show! It will be running concurrently with the Bear Valley Music Festival from July 26th~August 10th, in the Perry Walther Building, across from the Bear Valley Music Festival Tent. They will feature an art raffle benefiting the Music Festival. The raffle includes artwork by Nancy Calhoun, Jerry Gililland, June Brown and Joyce Schoonover. Tickets will be sold daily at the Art show in the Perry Walter building, next to the music tent, with the winning tickets to be drawn on August 10th.
