Valley Springs, CA....The 2008 Fall Quilt Show was held Saturday and Sunday in Valley Springs. The event, sponsored by the Loose Threads Quilt Guild, opened Saturday by presenting three veterans the Quilts of Valor, a program that has local quilter Gail Belmont making and presenting these quilts to all wounded service personnel. Belmont is a veteran of the US Army and Army .....

Most people want to know how to not grow mint. Its reputation for aggressiveness is well-deserved. New gardeners may not realize that if you give mint what it wants--rich moist soil in full sun or partial shade--it will take over your garden. Mint reproduces from long, creeping stems that spread out just under the soil surface whenever they get a chance. Mint can even find its way via deep, tortuous routes under fences and other barriers. Angels Camp, CA....The 4th Annual Angels Holiday Home Tour will take place on December 7th, noon to 4pm. The 4th Annual Angels Holiday Home Tour presents five Angels Camp area homes decorated for the holidays. Tickets will go on sale November 10, 2008 for $25 per person. Tickets will be available at the Calaveras County Visitor’s Center and Calaveras Lumber both in Angels Camp as well as the Angels Camp Library. All proceeds benefit the Angels Camp Library and are used to enhance services provided to the community. For more information contact Betty Sawyer at 209.736.6723.

Valley Springs, CA....The opening ceremonies honoring wounded warriors with American Legion Post 102 Color Guard and members of the Calaveras High School Band, will start at 9:45 am on Saturday, October 4th. Enjoy vendor booths, raffle baskets and even enter for a chance to win a sewing machine! The featured quilt artist is Didi McElroy. Quilt appraiser, Becky Rogers, will be available for appraisals. Mokelumne Hill, CA....Local artists will be lining the narrow streets and lanes of tiny Mokelumne Hill (in Calaveras County) on Saturday, October 11. No, they’re not protesting; they’ll be painting “plein air” which means painting outdoors on the spot from an easel and a nearby set of paints. The public may walk, drive, park and watch how different artists spontaneously create works using the historic gold-mining backdrop of Mokelumne Hill as their subjects.....
