Black Pepper, Black Gold...Grow Your Own with Kirk's Hydro
Posted by: John_Hamilton on 06/19/2012 10:14 AM
San Andreas, CA...Black pepper seems common to us now. It's the familiar spice in the shaker next to the salt. It wasn't always that way. Throughout most of human history, it was so rare and desirable it was known as 'black gold.' Columbus was looking for a quick route to tropical India where black pepper was grown when he famously got lost and landed in North America. Not only was he confused about his location, he confused language a bit, too. He called New World chiles 'peppers' because their fruity heat made him think they must be related to the the black pepper he had set sail to find. (They aren't related, though. The small, round black, green and white peppercorns used as a cooking spice are from the Piper species of plants. Bell peppers and chiles are from the Capsicum species.)...

What Dad needs is a space where he can go to chill, watch his game and hang out with friends without fighting the kids and Mom for the remote. What Dad needs is a Man Cave!! ....

San Andreas, CA...Kirk's Hydroponics has everything you need to make all of you indoor gardening a success. What does "hydroponics" mean? Hydroponics is a method of growing plants without soil. Most hydroponics systems use an "ebb and flow" method in which the roots are periodically flooded with a nutrient-rich water solution and then drained so that air can circulate around the roots. This is repeated many times throughout the day so that plants have access to the water, food and air they need, all the time...

Aging-in-Place...Remodeling for the Long-Term~by Sandy Reed of Uniquity Builders

Recently, my dad had to undergo major reconstructive surgery on his foot due to diabetes. Which means for the next six months to a year, he is sitting on his butt (which he hates)! He is either stuck on the couch or in a wheelchair. He uses a knee-walker to get around the house, because the wheelchair just doesn't fit through doorways and down the hall. Luckily for my dad, this is a temporary situation. My parent's house didn't need any major remodeling to help him get around during his recovery, just a simple ramp so he can get in and out of the house easily, which my husband built for him. ...
