07/22/2017 - The John Jorgenson Quintet at Twisted Oak July 22nd
Vallecito, CA...Twisted Oak Winery is pleased to announce the next concert of our 2017 Twisted Folk Concert Series – The John Jorgenson Quintet. "The John Jorgenson Quintet are on the short list of our most requested artists to bring back," said winery owner Jeff Stai. “The John Jorgenson Quintet is known as one of the premier combos playing gypsy jazz – that’s in the style of such pioneering musicians as Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli - we're thrilled to have again!"

A yummy BBQ rib dinner with side salads will be available for purchase (vegetarian option available), along with yummy Twisted Oak wine, popcorn, and soft drinks. Concertgoers are welcome to bring their own picnics and non-alcoholic drinks, but we ask that no outside alcoholic beverages be brought in.

Seating at Twisted Folk concerts is outdoor festival style, first-come, first-served – bring a low beach-type chair or a blanket to sit up front, or a regular chair to sit farther back. We’re on top of a hill and there is always an evening breeze – it can get a little chilly after dark so please plan ahead.

The John Jorgenson Quintet

Music virtuoso John Jorgenson, known for his blistering guitar licks and mastery of a broad musical palette, has earned a reputation as a world-class musician and guitarist who has collaborated with the likes of Elton John, Luciano Pavarotti, Bonnie Raitt and Bob Dylan. In addition to acoustic and electric guitars, he is also regularly featured on the saxophone, clarinet, bouzouki, pedal steel, mandolin, vocals and has garnered recognition for contributing to numerous platinum-selling and GRAMMY-winning albums.

Currently touring as the John Jorgenson Quintet, Jorgenson creates a unique musical experience that equally enthralls the most discerning and the casual music fan. The group’s style has been called “gypsy jazz” after the dynamic string-driven swing created by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli in 1930s Paris, but Jorgenson’s compositions draw in elements from Latin, Romanian, Classical, Rock and Greek music, so “21st Century World Music” is perhaps a more apt description.

What: Twisted Folk Concert Series Presents The John Jorgenson Quintet

Where: Twisted Oak Winery, 4280 Red Hill Rd at Hwy 4, Vallecito
When: Saturday, July 22nd, 2017 – 7:45pm. Concertgoers admitted at about 6:45pm

Ticket Information:
Tickets $30 advance ($25 Twisted Few wine club members), or $35 at the door, if available.
Children 12 and under: $10. 200% of children’s ticket sales will be directed to supporting music education in local schools.

07/15/2017 - Announcing the 24th Annual Murphys Duck Races!
Murphys, CA...Whether wading in the creek scooping up ducks or just enjoying a fun-filled afternoon in the park, just about everyone loves the Murphys Duck Races, part of Murphys Homecoming. This year’s event takes place Saturday, July 15, from about noon to about 3pm in Murphys Park. From 1pm to 2:30pm, there will be three different “races” in Murphys Creek. The Duckling Race kicks off at 1pm, with $3 tickets to vie for a chance to win JoMa’s ice cream, Angels Theater movie tickets, or a gift certificate to Murphys Toy Store. The Quacker Race starts at 1:30pm, and tickets are $5; winners in this event take home prizes like ice cream, movie tickets, or a Zip Line at Moaning Caverns. The finale is the Golden Goose Race at 2pm, in which $10 tickets put contestants in the running for golf at Sequoia Woods, fine dining at the Murphys Hotel, or a gift from Quyle Kilns. After each “heat,” all the kids help corral and collect the hundreds of rubber duckies that have been floating merrily downstream.

To make the races fair for everyone, winners are randomly selected from among all ticket holders. Tickets are available at select times in front of Sierra Hills Market or online at calaverasmentoringfoundation.org.

The Murphys Duck Races is a fundraiser for the Calaveras Mentoring Foundation, which raises awareness and funds for youth mentoring in Calaveras County, especially the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program. The Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program connects local youth with safe, positive mentors who offer friendship, opportunity, and support for making healthy life decisions. To learn more about how to support this important program, please visit the Calaveras Mentoring Foundation website at CalaverasMentoringFoundation.org.

Pine Leaf Boys Bio

The Pine Leaf Boys have made a name for presenting their own inimitable brand of Louisiana music with youthful exuberance. Hailing from the southwest Louisiana, the Pine Leaf Boys, known for their wild shows and thoughtful arrangements, have breathed new life into Louisiana music, reviving ancient songs and bringing them to the bandstand. Being described in the New York Times as, "... the link that connects the young and the old generations," and, "the best new, energetic, and fun Cajun band in a very long time," the Pine Leaf Boys play the old fashion dance hall standards while making a priority to bring many of the more obscure songs of past masters into their repertoire and play them with gusto.

The variety and energy they release evolves through their shows, bringing multi-faceted angles to Cajun, Creole, and Zydeco. Their mission is to present the beautiful, powerful music of their ancestors and present the real Cajun music to the world and prove that it is still thriving and full of life. The Pine Leaf Boys have preserved the traditional Cajun sound, while allowing it to breathe and stretch with those who play it.
