Not only is the fair now profitable it seems everyone involved is having a good time getting ready for our area's week in the national spotlight that with that little book by Mark Twain so many years ago...

The Passing of Joe Weider of Muscle & Fitness and Publishing Fame Has an Angels Camp Connection |
Posted by: John_Hamilton on 03/25/2013 02:12 PM

Angels Camp, CA...When Joe Weider passed away over the weekend at 93 it marked the end of an era for a man who did more to popularize the modern era of bodybuilding and moved it to an acceptable part of today's culture. Now most sports view strength and conditioning as a principal part of a competitive advantage. Joe was also the man who introduced the world to Arnold Schwarzenegger. The rest shall we say is history. What many of you may not know is that Joe's wife Betty Weider owns several properties in the area including the Angels Camp Mercantile Building and The Weider Office Building on Main Street in Angels Camp. The Weider's also maintain a home here on Finnegan Lane. Joe's life was a rags to riches story in it's own right and his building of his own physique culminated with courting one of the top pin up girls from the 1950's Betty Weider. It is hard to underestimate his impact on American culture from Arnold to even Rocky himself who was trained for his Rambo roles by another Weider protege Franco Colombo....
