Calaveras County, CA.....The Calaveras Winegrape Alliance will host its February Wines of the World event Thursday, Feb. 10 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Murphys Historic Hotel, 488 Main St., Murphys. Heralding in Valentine's Day celebrations, guest presenter is Gary Zucca, owner of Zucca Mountain Vineyards, will pour a variety of Ports and dessert wines paired with chocolates and sweet treats. "Life is too short to eat dessert last," exclaimed Carrie Nelson, CWA administrator. "We invite folks to treat that someone special to an early Valentine event, eat dessert first, and end the evening with dinner at the hotel with a $5 discount off each entrée.".....

San Andreas, CA....The Calaveras Mentoring Foundation will hold their initial meetings for all interested Calaveras County folks who would like to be in this year’s show. The meetings will be held February 3 at the Calaveras County Main Library in San Andreas, Cheseborough Room from 4pm to 6:30pm and February 17 at the Murphys Suites Hotel, conference room in Murphys from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Individuals will be seen in the order they arrive....

Murphys, CA...Murphys resident Kenneth Orrin Randall died Friday at his home. He was 79. Born in Martinez, he was a teacher at Bret Harte Union High School for more than 30 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Angels Camp. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Randall, of Murphys; children, Teresa and husband Doug Carr, of Oakland, Catherine Ponsano, of Sacramento, Peggy Randall, of Los Osos, Molly and husband Jon Dickerson, of Virginia, and Timothy and wife Therese Randall, of Angels Camp; brother, Donald Randall, of Murphys; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren....
