Angels Camp, CA...The Chamber of Commerce is raffling off a piece of Calaveras Gold Rush History with another of it's Gold Nugget raffles. The year's Nugget is just over 2.65 troy ounces worth somewhere near $5,000. With the price of gold rising daily, (today is $1,617 per ounce) it could be owrth much more by the time the winning raffle ticket is selected. The value is increased when the gold is in nugget form and this nugget is beautiful, a classic shaped nugget that was found locally during the Gold Rush...

Water Conditions: New Melones Lake is currently holding 2,275,641 acre-feet of water. The lake level dropped another two feet this week and is currently at 1076 ft. above sea level and 12 ft. from full. Water temperature is 80-83 degrees. Water is green-stained (lots of plankton- a good thing!) with strong mud lines near shore. Watch for floating debris and unmarked island tops.....
Joynell Walker, Mikaail Cotton, Edward Cotton, Parnell Walker and Diante Cotton (all from Sacramento), caught a 7-pound, 7-ounce cat while bank fishing with a crawler off of Osprey Point. |

Free Booths for Children at Fireman's Fun Day! |

Angels Camp, CA....Fireman's Fun Day will be held at Utica Park in Angels Camp on Saturday, August 27 from 10 AM until 6 PM. Free game booths (appropriate for children pre-school age through high school), are available with a refundable deposit and certificate of insurance. Booth holders will be set up by 9:30 AM and open until 6 PM, followed by clean-up, for the refund. Applications for the booths are available at Angels Camp Fire Department downtown on Vallecito Road....

Team Angels, Angels Gun Club's Youth Trap Shooters, sent a team of nine members to Las Vegas, July 17th and 18th, to the Youth Shooting Sports Association Inagural United State Open Championships. Varsity squad members that attended were Camden Irish, Kris Pohlman, Casey Nash, Wyatt Walraven and Tom Enzi, and Nicole Glass, Mathew Oswald, Ethan Herrada, and Aaron Hukkanen competed as individuals. Although no medals were earned, several personal bests were scored. ....

| The Native Sons of California along with other local dignitaries will be present to dedicate the museums five-stamp stamp mill as an official exhibit. This will include the unveiling of an official historic brass plaque by the Native Sons. This large stamp mill likely dates to the late 19th century but first shows p in the historical record in 1920 when it was purchased by Harry Hogart and placed on the current museum property in assisting with the mining operations of the Relief Quartz Mine.
