Water Resources Control Board Approves Emergency Drought Regulations

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/15/2014 11:19 PM
Sacramento, CA...In response to the ongoing severe drought, on Tuesday the State Water Resources Control Board approved an emergency regulation to ensure water agencies, their customers and state residents increase water conservation in urban settings or face possible fines or other enforcement. The new conservation regulation is intended to reduce outdoor urban water use. The regulation, adopted by the State Water Board, mandates minimum actions to conserve water supplies both for this year and into 2015. Most Californians use more water outdoors than indoors. In some areas, 50 percent or more of daily water use is for lawns and outdoor landscaping....

Weekly Address: Expanding Opportunity – It’s Time for Congressional Republicans to Do Their Part

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/12/2014 10:41 AM
Washington, DC...Hi, everybody. This week, I spent some time in Colorado and Texas, talking with people about what’s going on in their lives. One of them was Elizabeth Cooper, who’ll be a college junior this fall. She wrote to tell me something I hear often: how hard it is for middle-class families like hers to afford college. And she shared something I know many of you feel when you wonder what’s going on in Washington. She said she feels “not significant enough to be addressed, not poor enough for people to worry [about], and not rich enough to be cared about.”

President Obama's Weekly Address: Celebrating Independence Day

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/06/2014 07:20 AM
Washington, DC...Hi, everybody. I hope you're all having a great Fourth of July weekend. I want to begin today by saying a special word to the U.S. Men’s Soccer Team, who represented America so well the past few weeks. We are so proud of you. You’ve got a lot of new believers. And I know there’s actually a petition on the White House website to make Tim Howard the next Secretary of Defense. Chuck Hagel’s got that spot right now, but if there is a vacancy, I’ll think about it....

Declare Your Independence Responsibly This 4th Of July

Posted by: thepinetree on 07/01/2014 10:41 AM
Sacramento, CA....Independence Day is a holiday celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, by America’s forefathers. Many Californians will celebrate this occasion with outdoor barbeques, picnics, and social gatherings. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) encourages you to enjoy the holiday but always designate a sober driver and buckle up. The CHP will be out in full force during the holiday weekend in an effort to reduce roadway deaths and prevent injuries. The Independence Day Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) begins on Thursday, July 3, at 6 p.m. and continues through Sunday, July 6, at 11:59 p.m. All available officers throughout the state will be deployed during the MEP to focus enforcement on occupant restraints, speed violations, and those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs....

Betty T. Yee Announces Simpler Sales Tax Regulation for Food Trucks

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 07/01/2014 12:21 PM
San Francisco, Ca – Tired of digging in your pockets for change when it comes to buying from your favorite food truck? Well, the next time you step up for that bacon-encrusted, grilled-cheese sandwich, you might not have to thanks to a newly amended regulation from the California State Board of Equalization (BOE) announced Betty T. Yee, First District Member of the BOE. Starting July 1, 2014, a newly amended regulation will presume sales tax is included in the price of taxable items if the retailer hasn’t added it separately. Adopted unanimously by the Board at its March 25, 2014 meeting, the newly amended regulation saves food truck operators the hassle of charging their customers a different sales tax rate as they drive from city to city. The Board approved this amendment with the hope of simplifying the business practices of owners in the ever-expanding food truck segment, while simplifying the sales process for the public...

President Obama's Weekly Address "Focusing on the Economic Priorities for the Middle Class Nationwide"

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/28/2014 08:10 AM
Washington, DC...Hi, everybody. This week, I spent a couple days in Minneapolis, talking with people about their lives – their concerns, their successes, and their hopes for the future. I went because of a letter I received from a working mother named Rebekah, who shared with me the hardships her young family has faced since the financial crisis. She and her husband Ben were just newlyweds expecting their first child, Jack, when the housing crash dried up his contracting business. He took what jobs he could, and Rebekah took out student loans and retrained for a new career. They sacrificed – for their kids, and for each other. And five years later, they’ve paid off debt, bought their first home, and had their second son, Henry...

Fourth of July Fireworks Safety

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/24/2014 08:05 AM
San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County like most of the State is experiencing a severe drought and with these dry conditions the potential for fires is significantly increased. Fireworks are a fun and memorable part of the 4th of July holiday, but can also cause fires and injuries if not properly used. Consider watching a fireworks show in your community rather than creating your own display, but if you are going to use fireworks, please following these recommended tips from the National Council on Fireworks Safety...
