Expressing disappointment in Gov. Brown’s decision to sign a package of groundwater bills, the president of the California Farm Bureau Federation said the organization will now focus on how the bills are implemented. “We’re concerned that these hastily written measures may come to be seen as ‘historic’ for all the wrong reasons,” California Farm Bureau President Paul Wenger said. “Truly historic measures were taken more than 50 years ago, when President Kennedy and Gov. Pat Brown broke ground on water projects that ultimately allowed California to become a world economic power with food production that rivals that of entire nations.”... |

Murphys, CA...Eighteen men and women who are running for public office in Calaveras County will gather in Murphys Community Park on Sunday, September 28, 3 to 5 p.m. so that local voters can “Meet the Candidates.” The Murphys Community Club, in conjunction with the Murphys Business Association, is organizing the event as a new approach to neighborhood campaigning. “We think this is a great way for the residents of our area, in a stress free environment, to really get to know the people who want our votes,” say MCC President Sue Friedman. “There have been forums and other public gatherings, and the candidates have been attending events and knocking on doors, but here is a chance to interact informally with all the candidates in one place, at one time.”

Washington, DC...As Commander in Chief, my highest priority is the security of the American people. And I’ve made it clear that those who threaten the United States will find no safe haven. Thanks to our military and counterterrorism professionals, we took out Osama bin Laden, much of al Qaeda’s leadership in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and leaders of al Qaeda affiliates in Yemen and Somalia. We’ve prevented terrorist attacks, saved American lives and made our homeland more secure.

Washington, DC...Ladies and gentlemen, this is Joe Biden, I’m filling in for President Obama, while he addresses the NATO summit in Wales. When the President and I took office in January of 2009, this nation was in the midst of the greatest economic crisis since the great depression. Our economy had plummeted at a rate of 8% in a single quarter – part of the fastest economic decline any time in the last half century. Millions of families were falling underwater on their homes and threatened with foreclosure. The iconic American automobile industry was under siege.

Washington, DC...Remarks of President Barack Obama. Hi, everybody. Whether you’re firing up the grill, fired up for some college football, or filling up the car for one last summer roadtrip – Happy Labor Day weekend. We set aside Labor Day to honor the working men and women of America. And this Labor Day, we’ve got more to celebrate. Over the past 53 months, our businesses have added nearly 10 million new jobs. Last month, for the first time since 1997, we created more than 200,000 jobs for six straight months. And for the first time in over a decade, business leaders worldwide have declared, two years running, that the number one place to invest isn’t China – it’s America....
