Governor Brown Appoints David M. Sanders to Calaveras County Superior Court |

Sacramento, CA...David M. Sanders, 63, of Pioneer, has been appointed to a judgeship in the Calaveras County Superior Court. Sanders has served as a commissioner at the Calaveras County Superior Court since 2015. He was a supervising attorney at Field and Sanders from 2009 to 2014 and at King Warwick and Sanders from 2002 to 2009. Sanders was an associate at Pagliero and Associates 1996 to 1999 and a partner at Pagliero and Sanders from 1999 to 2002 and a sole practitioner from 1993 to 1996. He was an associate at Johnson, Pagliero and Schachter from 1990 to 1993 and at Bullen, McKone, McKinley, Gay, Keitges and Pach from 1987 to 1990.

Brown Jr. today announced the appointment of 10 California superior court judges, which include: One in Calaveras County; 4 in Los Angeles County; one in Orange County; one in San Francisco County; one in Santa Barbara County; one in Santa Clara County; and one in Sonoma County.

FDA Approves First Drug Comprised of an Active Ingredient Derived from Marijuana |

Washington, DC...The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Epidiolex (cannabidiol) [CBD] oral solution for the treatment of seizures associated with two rare and severe forms of epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome, in patients two years of age and older. This is the first FDA-approved drug that contains a purified drug substance derived from marijuana. It is also the first FDA approval of a drug for the treatment of patients with Dravet syndrome.

The Act also vests the President with authority to restrict the entry of aliens whenever he finds that their entry “would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.” 8 U. S. C. §1182(f).

Sacramento, CA...California Attorney General Xavier Becerra today issued the following statement after the United States Supreme Court struck down California’s Reproductive Freedom, Accountability, Comprehensive Care, and Transparency (FACT) Act in National Institute of Family and Life Advocates v. Xavier Becerra in a 5-4 decision. The FACT Act required clinics to provide neutral, fact-based information to women regarding reproductive health and options.

Washington, DC...New Zealand is four times more dependent on agriculture than the United States, and it once maintained extensive farm subsidies. In 1984, it ended them. What happened? Farm productivity and earnings rose. The Federated Farmers of New Zealand fought just as vigorously as their American counterparts to preserve their subsidies. Yet in hindsight, the same group now says that its experience “thoroughly debunked the myth that the farming sector cannot prosper without government subsidies.” In fact, it thrives.

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Office of Emergency Services (OES) is pleased to announce construction on Butte Fire roads began today in collaboration with Calaveras County Department of Public Works. Road work will commence on West Murray Road, Cave City Road, Whiskey Slide, Michel Road, Potteroff Road, Baker Riley, Old Gulch Road, Doster Road, Worden, Hawver Road and Ponderosa Way.

U.S. Condemns Rural Herder-Farmer Violence in Nigeria |

Washington, DC...The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms the killing of civilians and destruction of property in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region over the weekend. We are concerned by the recent increase in armed violence against civilians and call on all political and community leaders to lend their voices to peace and to work together to find lasting solutions to these rural conflicts. We join President Buhari and others in sending our deepest condolences to the affected communities, and in the desire to see the perpetrators brought to justice and to prevent further violence.
