Sacramento, CA...Acting Governor Gavin Newsom today sent a letter to the President and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requesting a Presidential Emergency Declaration for Direct Federal Assistance to support the communities impacted by wildfires burning across the state, including the Camp Fire in Butte County, the Hill and Woolsey fires in Ventura County, the Nurse Fire in Solano County and fires in several other counties, including Lassen and Mendocino.

Sacramento, CA...Acting Governor Gavin Newsom today issued an emergency proclamation for Butte County due to the effects of the Camp Fire, which has destroyed homes, threatened critical infrastructure and caused the evacuation of residents.

Sacramento, CA...California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services Director Mark Ghilarducci early Friday morning secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help ensure the availability of vital resources to suppress the Woolsey Fire burning in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. The FMAG also enables local, state and tribal agencies to recover eligible costs.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Suffers Three Broken Ribs in Fall |

Washington, DC...Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fell in her office at the Court last evening. She went home, but after experiencing discomfort overnight, went to George Washington University Hospital early this morning. Tests showed that she fractured three ribs on her left side and she was admitted for observation and treatment. Updates will be provided as they become available.

4,000 Ballots Left to Count Before Election Results are Complete |

San Andeas, CA...From the Calaveras Elections Office..."All polling place results are in and all vote by mails received in our office by 5:00 pm today are included in the current results. There are roughly 4,000 ballots in our office left to count. This includes vote by mail and provisional ballots received at the polling places, over the counter ballots received after 5:00 pm today, and CVR ballots received. We are continuing to count vote by mails received in the mail through Friday, November 9th as long as they were postmarked by Election Day , November 6th.

San Andreas, CA...What was the effect of three Supervisors exiling 1000 workers representing 16% of the Calaveras County workforce without even a plan to replace those jobs? Except for in touristdriven downtown Murphys, exiling those missing customers spelled R-E-C-E-S-S-I-O-N throughout the county. Data available from the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (formerly, Board of Equalization) shows a drastic drop in sales tax allocations in Calaveras County immediately following the County ban on commercial Cannabis cultivation.

Brown Jr. joined Attorney General Xavier Becerra on October 29th to present the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor to five public safety leaders from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department who went above and beyond the call of duty. “American democracy is not going to work if it’s just based on self-interest or people trying to get what they want. It’s also based on serving a much higher ideal,” said Governor Brown. “Men and women in uniform demonstrate that more than anyone – and that’s why we have a medal of valor and honor these individuals today.”

Washington, DC...Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa is releasing a summary report on the committee majority’s investigation of misconduct allegations presented during the confirmation process of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. “The revelation of last minute allegations tested the committee in many ways. But these investigative efforts rose to the occasion and were critical to helping us obtain the truth. This was a serious and thorough investigation that left no stone unturned in our pursuit of the facts,” Grassley said. “In the end, there was no credible evidence to support the allegations against the nominee.”
