South County Fire Departments, Angels Camp & Altaville Melones Release Details on O'Reilly Fire |

Angels Camp, CA...On 07.31.20 about 5pm the fire dispatch center starting receiving 911 calls for a wildland fire in the field behind O’Reilly Auto Parts on 740 S. Main St. At 5:03pm (4) fire engines were dispatched to this incident along with Chief Officers from the City of Angels Camp, Altaville Melones Fire District and Calfire. The first fire engine arrived at 5:05pm, the next two arrived within one minute and the fourth shortly after.

Marine Training Accident Leaves One Marine Dead with Eight Still Missing |

Camp Pendleton, CA...Brief Statement from the Marines on the incident..."1 Marine has died, 8 service members remain missing and 2 were injured after an AAV mishap July 30 off the coast of Southern California. All are assigned to the 15th MEU. Search and rescue efforts are still underway with support from the Navy and Coast Guard."

Sonora, CA...The Stanislaus National Forest will host a virtual open house to discuss the Social and Ecological Resiliency Across the Landscape, or SERAL project, which is currently in the initial public scoping period through Aug. 15, 2020. Forest Supervisor Jason Kuiken and members of the SERAL team will present a 20-minute overview of the SERAL project’s proposed actions starting at 5 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer period. Washington, DC...Gross Domestic Product, 2nd Quarter 2020 (Advance Estimate) and Annual Update. Real gross domestic product (GDP) decreased at an annual rate of 32.9 percent in the second quarter of 2020 (table 1), according to the "advance" estimate released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the first quarter, real GDP decreased 5.0 percent.

Justice Ginsburg Back in New York Hospital for Treatment |

New York, NY...Justice Ginsburg underwent a minimally invasive non-surgical procedure today at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City to revise a bile duct stent that was originally placed at Sloan Kettering in August 2019. According to her doctors, stent revisions are common occurrences and the procedure, performed using endoscopy and medical imaging guidance, was done to minimize the risk of future infection. The Justice is resting comfortably and expects to be released from the hospital by the end of the week.

Calaveras Ag Dept Says...Do Not Open, Plant or Dispose of Seed Packets from China. Drop them off in San Andreas |

San Andreas, CA...Unsolicited seed packets from China and other parts of Asia have begun to arrive in Calaveras County. The Environmental Management Agency started receiving phone calls this afternoon. The California Department of Food and Agriculture recently became aware of the reports that seed packets are being shipped to home owners throughout the United States which now include Calaveras residents.

California Puts Money Back Into the Pockets of Millions of Working Californians Amid COVID-19 Recession |

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom announced that over $1 billion has gone back into the pockets of more than 3.6 million working Californians and their families through the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) and Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC). He also announced that Californians will get the raise they deserve, by declining to use his authority to suspend the scheduled minimum wage increase in 2021, up to $14 per hour.

Governor Newsom Releases Final Water Resilience Portfolio |

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom released a final version of the Water Resilience Portfolio, the Administration’s blueprint for equipping California to cope with more extreme droughts and floods, rising temperatures, declining fish populations, over-reliance on groundwater and other challenges. The portfolio outlines 142 state actions to help build a climate-resilient water system in the face of climate change. The actions tie directly to Administration efforts to carry out recent laws regarding safe and affordable drinking water, groundwater sustainability and water-use efficiency. They also elevate priorities to secure voluntary agreements in key watersheds to improve flows and conditions for fish, address air quality and habitat challenges around the Salton Sea and protect the long-term functionality of the State Water Project and other conveyance infrastructure.

USDA Urges Citizens Not to Plant & Investigating Unsolicited Seed Packages from China |

Washington, DC...USDA is aware that people across the country have received suspicious, unsolicited packages of seed that appear to be coming from China. USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is working closely with the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection, other federal agencies, and State departments of agriculture to investigate the situation.

Nine New Cases of COVID-19 Reported in Calaveras County as Surge Continues |

San Andreas, CA...On Tuesday, July 28, 2020 Calaveras Public Health reported nine new cases of COVID-19 in Calaveras County. The additional cases include one female and two males between 0 to 17 years of age, four females and one male between 18 to 49 years of age, and one male over the age of 65. Four cases were reported in District 1, Districts 2 and 3 had one reported case each, and three cases were reported in District 5. No new cases were reported from District 4.
