Washington, DC...(PBS Newshour)..President Donald Trump said this year’s election is "the most important election in the history of our country" in his address on the final night of the Republican National Convention on Aug. 27, 2020. He opened his remarks by acknowledging the Americans affected by Hurricane Laura, as well as the efforts of state and national officials, saying, "We are one national family."

San Andreas, CA...On Friday, August 28, 2020, Calaveras Public Health confirmed 13 new cases of COVID-19 in Calaveras County. The additional cases include 3 females and 2 males between 18 to 49 years of age, 2 males between 50-64 years of age, and 2 females and 4 males over 65 years of age. There were 10 cases reported in District 1, 1 case reported in District 2, and 2 cases in District 5. There were no cases to report in Districts 3 and 4.

Governor Newsom Announces Plan to More than Double State’s Testing Capacity, Reduce Turnaround Time

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that California has signed a groundbreaking contract with a major diagnostics company, which will allow California to process up to an additional 150,000 COVID-19 diagnostic tests a day, with a contractual turnaround time of 24-48 hours. The goal is to stand up a laboratory facility and begin processing tens of thousands of additional tests by November 1 and run at full capacity by no later than March 1, 2021.
